Title: Problem a friend is having
Post by: Phoenix Wright on December 22, 2006, 12:38:14 PM
Okay, yesterday I picked up OpenArena and today I'm sharing it with some of my friends.

They're reporting this kind of error (one of them was smart enough to c+p:

Quote
couldn't exec q3config.cfg
couldn't exec autoexec.cfg

Running Windows PCs.  Works fine on mine (even though I had the Quake III Arena Demo installed before)

Any reason as to why this may be happening to them?

Try reinstalling, but before you do that, uninstall, then go to \C:\documents and settings\YourUserFolder\application data\.Delete the oa folder in the app data folder, then reinstall. If you can't see the app data folder,go to tools\folder options, then click on the view tab,and find the option to show hidden folders. Hope that helps.

That didn't fix anything, they're saying now.  Strange how it needs the config files for some unknown reason.  Doesn't the engine auto-generate those?

Ignore him.  I'm trying to help as much as I can, and no one else seems to be helping.  Which tells me that no one really cares about who can use OpenArena...

i had the same problem.
I had oa installed on my desktop and copied the folders on a movable harddisk
then i pasted oa on my girlfriends labtop (programfiles).
I just had to copy the q3config-file into the app data folder, and everything worked out fine.

the reason i copied instead of installing, was because of a simple mod i was testing.
This is probably not the best reason to do this but
if installing doens't work, you could just copy the folders like i did?
