Hey,
I was just wondering if the BFG gun has been coded into OpenArena. I've noticed that this weapon doesn't exist in any maps I've tried yet, and I'm wondering if it's ever gonna be available. I know a lot of people don't like that gun in Quake 3, but I'd still like to see it.
Is it usable and all we need is a map that has it? Just wondering.

Have you seen it in a default map? I havn't explored the custom maps too much.

Want the BFG? Download the BFG10K mod, and go crazy with a fragfest with all BFGs...BFG Fury! BWAHAHAHAHA! Haha, it's really really fun I tell ya, especially when you play against bots that prefer railguns and rockets to BFGs.

I did notice that the BFG is like impossible to find...even if I use the advanced UI and set weapons to only BFGs...they never show up...

Bleh, it might be the weapon respawn time for BFGs...most likely set for a long long long long time so it makes it hard to find a BFG...but if it is like this, it's either hard to find, or it's so long that it's not even worth waiting to get the BFG...

Bleh, my solution was to play the BFG mod, but really....if there is a BFG, where is it?

The BFG will be there if the person who creates the map decides to make it available.
Usually, to prevent abuse it is either absent, or in really hard to reach areas.

Of course, you can always install a custom map with known BFG spawn points, like ObiWansHouse (a loud voice screaming ATTENTION, ATTENTION, CAMPER IN THE LIVING ROOM is heard each time someone picks the BFG).

I think the still-absent nailgun would be a good substitute for the machine/mini gun, BTW.

You don't need any extra mod, if you just want to use the BFG in singleplayer against bots. You can cheat, but not in an easy way. If you want to cheat and use the "/give all" command to get the BFG.. then you first type "/devmap kaos" , then you hit enter (or you could try another map of your choice, instead of kaos). After you've typed "/devmap kaos" and the map has loaded, you can type "/give bfg10k", or just type "/give all", and you will be given all weapons (including the bfg10k) , health, armor etc.

That is NOT the real BFG10k. The real BFG10k clearly fires radioactive balls of snot that shoot frickin' lazers out of them. The real BFG10k also takes more skill and good timing to use effectively. The "Plasma with rocket splash" BFG is clearly not a skilled weapon and it's use should be shunned where possible.

Uuh... the green, lasery plasma ball of death is from Doom and the previous Quake games. Q3 BFG IS the same as OA's.

Yup, that's what I'm talking about. The Q3A BFG10k is not the true BFG10k. The Q2 BFG10k is the real one. Seriously though, Q3 BFG is an overpowered and underskilled weapon and shouldn't be included by any sane mapper unless they have good reason.

There's no satisfaction to be taken from killing with it.

The Q2 BFG didn't take much skill to own with. The key was not getting gang raped trying to get to it.

Is there a mod that enables some sort of "classic" bfg so that it behaves like in, for example doom?
