Title: Servers Browser Post by: Cacatoes on December 28, 2007, 01:28:51 PM Hello boys and girls,
I was thinking of a tool which lists the servers and players, allowing you to easily add your favorites, and to see if your mates are online. I'm often checking http://dpmaster.deathmask.net/, still I don't find it really convenient. I'm not either satisfied with the built-in game browser. It seems most players aren't interested in that kind of tool, but I am. I'm using GNU/Linux. 1) Are some people actually using that kind of tool with OA ? The few searches I made brought me to some abandonned websites and nothing really usable, maybe I didn't search well. 2) I think it would not be too hard to develop such tool, but I haven't developped anything for years and I'm not sure I'd have the time & motivation to make one. Maybe YOU will do it for me instead :P Joking, but I could try to do something and if I do I'll give feedbacks here. :) Title: Re: Servers Browser Post by: w1zrd on December 28, 2007, 02:34:10 PM Try XQF, it should be in your repository.
Title: Re: Servers Browser Post by: Cacatoes on December 28, 2007, 03:24:22 PM It is... and I missed it, how blind.
Thanks, I haven't played with it yet but it should be okay. Title: Re: Servers Browser Post by: w1zrd on December 28, 2007, 03:48:19 PM It is... and I missed it, how blind. Just do a few adjustments to it's configuration (I think I posted a guide:ish in club nub) and you should be sailing away with Open Arena servers across the board. Thanks, I haven't played with it yet but it should be okay. Title: Re: Servers Browser Post by: Cacatoes on December 29, 2007, 08:58:29 AM Had enough time to play :)
I was searching for some config files but it's not the way to go, so if someone wants to make XQF suitable, here is what to do : step 1: OA is not listed, but Q3 Arena is. Add dpmaster.deathmask.net inside Q3 ; works like a charm. Delete other master servers if you do not use Q3 ... step 2: Every game is listed. We would like to only display OA/Q3. So configure Quake 3 adding your path/to/openarena/ioquake3.x. Once it is done, check the Appearance menu, and check "only show configured games". Should clear the view. step 3: Refresh the server list. step 4: add your favorite servers, go in Players Filter, and add any player name you want :) step 5: Enable filtering according to players, only servers with someone on your list will be listed. step 6: Done ? Done, I'm not that maniac to do more :) It's handy, also appreciated to be able to use Rcon to administrate servers from it. Title: Re: Servers Browser Post by: Cacatoes on January 04, 2008, 10:03:51 AM yeah, but if I see you're online on another serv I'll go there just to bother you :P

Title: Re: Servers Browser Post by: SlippJigg on May 30, 2008, 11:12:10 PM I use XQF with my PCLinuxOS and it works like a charm. I use it for open arena under my quake 3 game. I use it for urban terror set up as my Wolfenstein game.
google up the master server address to each game you want to add. I also use XQF for the following listed games Open Arena - (set up under Quake 3) - set master server protocol 68 Urban Terror 4.2 (set up under Wolfenstein)Warsow - set to master server protocol 68 Nexuiz 2.4 - master server protocol 3 Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory - master server protocol 84 Tremulous - set to master server protocol 69 You can also set it up to us the GSlists of master servers...Google it up. If their is very much interest i could write up an article on how to set up Linux games in XQF. XQF is a great server browser but it needs updated to include all the new open source & free games. Any programmers out there? The project & code is at sourceforge! I have mine set at 68 and it works, but i will switch mine to 69 - just cause you know more about it. When I switched it to 69, now it is only picking up .77 servers....sweet.
I set my Wolfenstein up to work with my Open Arena, instead of setting open arena up under quake 3 arena. I done this because i play both OA and ioq3a. http://dpmaster.deathmask.net/?game=openarena&sort=ip&showplayers=yes&hide=both&hideheader=1&hideplayers=1 Is working for me to find servers without bots ;) (i mean if u are as lazy as i am to reconfigure the xcf thing) Title: Re: Servers Browser Post by: fufinha on June 19, 2008, 05:31:08 PM Very nice, thank you.
I will try something similar, I'm mostly on protocol 68 but the link is broke but this does me nicely http://dpmaster.deathmask.net/?game=openarena&oldprotocol=67 Title: Re: Servers Browser Post by: dash9 on June 25, 2008, 07:55:11 PM I was searching for some config files but it's not the way to go, so if someone wants to make XQF suitable, here is what to do : I got an error message when double clicking a server: ~/.q3a directory doesn't exist or doesn't contain "baseq3" ("demoq3") subdirectory. Please run Quake3: Arena client at least once before running XQF or specify correct Quake3: Arena working directory. To fix this I did: cd ~ I unchecked in the Quake3 settings "set fs_game on connect". I had to check "Terminate XQF [when launching a game]" because otherwise XQF it runs at 100% CPU/core. The servers running on protocol 68 give an "Invalid Game Folder" error, at least the ones I tried.. The problem is that the ones on protocol 69 cannot be reached at all, I mean the game is started and trying to connect but it doesn't connect. I don't understand why. I'll try again tomorrow. Does it work for you? Title: Re: Servers Browser Post by: Cacatoes on June 26, 2008, 09:02:04 AM It's been a while I haven't played OA and I don't have a linux box near the hand, so I can't check, sorry :P
Strange your XQF reaches 100% CPU, though, maybe the symlinks you did were a not that good idea, i'm not sure. |
