Title: Gauging interest: Milestone Celebration Mappack Post by: Neon_Knight on February 03, 2019, 02:44:20 PM Before we start, yes, there IS the Quake Tribute mappack. However, bear with me, this is just about two games.
This year is the 20th. anniversary of the release of both Quake III Arena and Unreal Tournament. I was thinking on doing a milestone tribute mappack. That's it! Information about what this pack is about and what the rules are can be found here (https://github.com/NeonKnightOA/oamilestonemappack/blob/master/README.md). Which maps can enter? The following tributes:

I want to supply my version on q3a_tourney2. Find here my current version. Just right now in beta status ... 8) Tester are welcome to share there opinion. https://app.box.com/s/sgpjk1gag517bl2qv4waue9mvted3ntb P.S.: Sorry for beeing abscent from Discord, somehow the link was not working again. Maybe there is a different way to connect? Title: Re: Gauging interest: Milestone Celebration Mappack Post by: Gig on February 11, 2019, 03:45:26 PM P.S.: Sorry for beeing abscent from Discord, somehow the link was not working again. Maybe there is a different way to connect? Do you mean that the link in the fist post here: http://openarena.ws/board/index.php?topic=5287.0 gives you some kind of error? Which error?[UPDATE: I see you managed to join the Discord. Fine.] PS: Tried the map. Very good, it feels to be at home! ^_^ Of course, texturing still needs to be polished a bit, but map is nice. From an aesthetic point of view, I found a bit odd the geometry at the top of some doorways. From a gameplay point of view, I noticed you bump your head too easily when using the jumppads to reach the upper floor. Thanks Gig for Discord support and map feedback. :-* Yes, same issues I have noted at the jumppads while my test matches. Can you give me more details about the ood doorways, would like to improve it. xD Title: Re: Gauging interest: Milestone Celebration Mappack Post by: Gig on February 11, 2019, 05:11:07 PM The odd part is where the two parts of the top of the doorway connect. There is that "space" in the middle which seems a bit strange. But maybe it's just a feeling of mine.
Unfortuntaly, uploading to the forum still doesn't work, so I sent you screenshot via Discord PM. Title: Re: Gauging interest: Milestone Celebration Mappack Post by: Neon_Knight on February 11, 2019, 05:25:38 PM We have two maps in the pack, now. Neat!

Ya forgot that I have also offert my version q3dm17. https://app.box.com/s/xa1c4uggu08vwakwz5h5fa58qfzdlm92 Neat! :P Title: Re: Gauging interest: Milestone Celebration Mappack Post by: Neon_Knight on February 12, 2019, 06:39:22 AM Ok, make it four.
I've added my version of q3dm1. Title: Re: Gauging interest: Milestone Celebration Mappack Post by: Gig on February 12, 2019, 05:37:57 PM NK, do you have pk3 of your maps available for testing?
Title: Re: Gauging interest: Milestone Celebration Mappack Post by: Neon_Knight on February 13, 2019, 04:02:08 PM Not yet. Only shells uploaded to the repo. I think q3ctf1 can be compiled and made to work.
Title: Milestone Celebration Mappack - Who wants to partecipate? Post by: Gig on May 19, 2019, 10:44:56 AM Hello everyone. This post is just to remind that, according to the rules pages linked in the first post...
June 1st. - Deadline for volunteers So, who else is interested into creating one or more maps for this mappack, please express your interest soon! Discussions about it can happen in this post or in the Discord server. Title: Re: Gauging interest: Milestone Celebration Mappack Post by: Gig on May 21, 2019, 03:51:20 AM Some clarification about how to make GPL-compatible tribute maps...
Quote from: NeonKnight/Triple H A GPL remake is a remake that follows the GPL license. It seems a bit complicated, but the key points to remember is that any package under GPL must follow four freedoms: - freedom to use the package - freedom to modify the package/create derivatives - freedom to redistribute the original package - freedom to redistribute the modified/derived result And in order to achieve that, in addition to the map itself, there should be a license file and the sources of the assets (.xcf or .psd for images, .map for the BSP, etc.) either packed with the file or in a separate file. Further expanding: You have to redo the map geometry from scratch. While you shouldn't deviate too much from the original layout, you don't need to make the new map a 1:1 exact copy of the original... you can go to make it very similar, but without the need to check the exact size of each brush of the original bsp... About textures/shaders, you can use those included in stock OA 0.8.8... plus add your own or even third party, but you have to be sure they are GPLv2 compatible (licensed under GPLv2+, Public Domain or CC-0 by their original authors). For better following the license, you should provide "sources" (e.g. xcf, psd) of your multilayer images. Also shader code is subject to copyright. Counting also the hidden ones, OA 0.8.8 includes something like 50 maps (I don't remember the number now), and their textures and shaders are there for you, to be used directly or to be used as a starting point for creating your own gpl assets. You can't reuse q3a or ut99 textures... but you can use oa textures! Tributes need to recall the original maps in layout, but texturing is up to your taste! You can also create copies of the textures from OACMP Volume 1, if you wish, as they are GPL. About pk3 models to be placed into the map, you cannot reuse those which came with q3radiant installation, but if you wish you can make your own using programs such as Blender or Maverick Model 3D... However, IMHO you don't really need to include additional pk3 models or sounds in order to make a good map. :-) Some links you may find useful: - Garux's "NetRadiant Custom" fork (https://github.com/garux/netradiant-custom) (updated map editor. Of course there are also other editors supporting OA maps.) -- NetRadiant Custom "releases" (https://github.com/Garux/netradiant-custom/releases) (downloads) - OpenArena gamepack (https://github.com/NeonKnightOA/oagamepack Updated) for the editor (works with NetRadiant 1.5, GTK Radiant 1.5, and I don't know if also something else) -- Gamepack direct download zip (https://github.com/NeonKnightOA/oagamepack/archive/master.zip) (extract "games" and "oa.game" into your NetRadiant folder. Should also include a default "shaderlist.txt" that you can use to start from -usually goes into baseoa folder-.) - OACMP Volume 1 v3 download (https://www.moddb.com/games/openarena/addons/openarena-community-mappack-volume-1-v3-re-release) in case you wish to reuse (copy) some of its assets, as they are GPL. AS-HiSpeed CTF-LavaGiant DM-Healpod][ DM-Pyramid Title: Re: Gauging interest: Milestone Celebration Mappack Post by: Neon_Knight on May 31, 2019, 11:01:21 AM I'll be tackling the following:
- DM-Oblivion (shell is in the repository) - DOM-Condemned (as a DM map) - DM-Liandri Just to balance, if I can't make Liandri in time, I'll pick q3dm16 instead. EightMegs/ToyotafanKK is tackling q3ctf1 using a shell I've started. Can't wait to see what he did. Not sure if he's also going to do another map. carca55gr1nd3r has q3tourney2. Title: Re: Gauging interest: Milestone Celebration Mappack Post by: Gig on June 24, 2019, 11:36:52 AM First (and penultimate) reminder: there is one week remaining to decide/tell which maps each mapper is going to make (expected deadline July 1st).
