Title: Kernel 2.6.28, GEM (Graphics Execution Manager) and OA benchmarks
Post by: Cacatoes on December 29, 2008, 02:56:18 PM
Seems there are good news for linux users, specially for Intel chipset owners.
To sum up, kernel developpers are reorganizing graphic layers on Linux, and with kernel 2.6.28 comes GEM (http://kernelnewbies.org/Linux_2_6_28#head-b957b19f6139b6bbbfabaf790bf643b1746985d6) (Graphics Execution Manager), which could increase performances of about 50% for Intel chipsets from what I've read here and there (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/252094) (and they were using OpenArena for their benchmarks :D )
Actually I'm gathering informations to see if it's usable with my GMA965 chipset, and not too painful to test.
Some other guys had rather mitigated results (http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=intel_graphics_q408&num=1) with it, but It should be a matter of months so that most adventurous of us could get real benefits from it.
