For some reason my framerate got real choppy and it's not as smooth as it was before. Any ideas on what might be causing this?

Usually, it's something running in the background. Have you installed anything recently? Check your taskbar and processes for anything new.

No but I did tweak some settings which seems to have fixed it.

with my common annoyances i have to..

cg_drawgun 0
r_detailtextures 0
snaps 40
rate 10000

.. not bad after that (sometimes playable)
