Title: OpenArena nominated as Best open source game Post by: redcom on November 26, 2010, 07:44:04 AM OpenArena has reached the final round in the category: "Best open source game" of this Open Source awards (http://www.portalprogramas.com/software-libre/premios) which gives a donation of EUR 300 to the winner. I'd recommend to vote for OpenArena (http://www.portalprogramas.com/software-libre/premios/proyecto/66). At this time it is near to first place!
It is proudly nominated as projects such as FlightGear (http://www.portalprogramas.com/software-libre/premios/proyecto/63) and AssaultCube (http://www.portalprogramas.com/software-libre/premios/proyecto/53). Last year, this category didn't exist but OpenOffice.org was awarded in this contest: http://es.openoffice.org/lecturas/lecturas_0021.html Title: Re: OpenArena nominated as Best open source game Post by: Cacatoes on November 26, 2010, 08:05:36 AM Voted :D (From 9th to 8th place thanks to it :D)
It's nice for these projects to get a bit of recognition. I wouldn't want to support already well established softwares, ones with firms behind, ones which already got means. Smaller, active and more original ones deserve more. Title: Re: OpenArena nominated as Best open source game Post by: redcom on November 26, 2010, 08:36:58 AM We know there are many different projects with different needs, that is why we created 4 categories in this open source awards:
- Best Open Source - Most Revolutionary Open Source - Open Source where more donations are needed - Best Open Source game Title: Re: OpenArena nominated as Best open source game Post by: Neon_Knight on November 26, 2010, 08:56:43 AM Voted! :D

Title: Re: OpenArena nominated as Best open source game Post by: chaoticsoldier on November 26, 2010, 05:23:03 PM I just voted too. OpenArena is currently 7th.
(gmail regarded the confirmation request as spam :D) Title: Re: OpenArena nominated as Best open source game Post by: RMF on November 27, 2010, 01:11:42 PM Ok voted too now, where can you actually see how many votes a game has?
edit: posted on 3 clanforums. 6th place now (risen 2 since yesterday!). Let's continue like that :) Btw, the game which was first yesterday is now 4th. The top is probably only a few votes apart (else it wouldn't change that fast), so we make a good chance if we ask enough people. Title: Re: OpenArena nominated as Best open source game Post by: chaoticsoldier on November 27, 2010, 07:02:44 PM I tried to find a vote tally too. I'm not sure it's available.

Title: Re: OpenArena nominated as Best open source game Post by: Gig on November 28, 2010, 04:45:17 PM I suppose because "cheating" isn't a good thing... and using more email adresses to have the same person vote multiple times is like cheating..
Title: Re: OpenArena nominated as Best open source game Post by: Cacatoes on November 28, 2010, 05:39:31 PM Jesus told me if there is as much cheating in other projects then that's no more a problem.
Title: Re: OpenArena nominated as Best open source game Post by: Tiny on November 29, 2010, 12:14:49 AM Oh well, i bet the guys who created this system knew that would happen, and i also bet there's some others... " cheat " with the other projetcs :RIP:
Title: Re: OpenArena nominated as Best open source game Post by: RMF on November 29, 2010, 03:25:33 AM Should just have saved the combination of IP and e-mail. Still easy via the Tor network or other proxies, but harder for the average newb at least...
Title: Re: OpenArena nominated as Best open source game Post by: Cacatoes on December 01, 2010, 08:26:11 AM Seems the contest is closed since today, I haven't tried but there still is an option to vote.
I suppose they'll have a check on results, and notice winners soon ;) Donation is 100$, not 300$ as it was announced by mistake. Rigs of rods is in good place to earn the price, they promoted it and they had an enthusiast community behind to support them ;) http://www.rigsofrods.com/threads/70136-Rigs-of-Rods-nominated-as-Best-open-source-game OA is 5th right now, which is not bad at all. I can't preserve myself from being surprised PokerTH ended 2nd (it's like Gnome Chess was on the way to be nominated), having a community made of gamblers participating to a contest involving money is quite a special case :P Title: Re: OpenArena nominated as Best open source game Post by: RMF on December 01, 2010, 05:28:06 PM Quote OA is 5th right now, which is not bad at all. Better than last time I looked, seems spamming it on a couple of forums worked :) |
