Title: Can't Get a Clean Install
Post by: Shael Riley on August 13, 2007, 07:42:23 AM
I've been having a problem: new maps and mods I DL from servers will not show up when I try to select them from the OA menu. Conversely, old models and maps that I delete from the OA directory still show up. To solve this problem, I thought I'd do a clean install. So, I uninstalled Open Arena from the control panel, went in using Windows Explorer and made sure all the files were gone, no longer residing in their previous places of residence, and re-installed OA 7.0 from the zip linked on the homepage. Maddeningly, all of the old maps, models, settings and mods were still in place. I even loaded up my old, presumably deleted version of Super Heroes Arena and it worked as though nothing had been changed.

What is going on here?

Configs and autodownloaded files are never stored in the game folder.

In Windows XP they are stored in: Documents and Settings/USERNAME/Application Data/OpenArena/baseoa
To make a clean install you don't have to remove the program, just the folder in Application Data

No such folder exists. I rooted around documents and settings to see if a similar one did; one did not. A search for all instances of "baseoa" in a folder or filename yielded these interesting results....

On an unrelated note, thank you for making that cool, CTF castle map.

you're attempting to delete the folder from the ZIP file using windows' built in zip support, and that won't work.
