Title: Are MODS supported?
Post by: VictorDTarsus on September 09, 2007, 04:45:41 AM
Hey guys, its been a long time since I even played the original Quake III Arena game. Wha I wanted to really know is, can I use MODS wit OA?

Yes, the only problems I have found is a few missing textures in some mods and their specific maps, so far I have tested these personally:

ExcessivePlus 1.03
True Combat 1.2 -> Best modern warfare total conversion mod so far on this engine.
Urban Terror 4.0

You can get those here, in the same order as listed above:

http://www.urbanterror.net/page.php?6

Tested on Linux BTW.

Some work, some only work on certain architectures, and some don't.

Thanx guys, I have been an avid Mac user for 13 years now and like it when games I loved back in the day become OpenSource. Well I just need to find out how I install the mods under the new Universal Binary Native OS X compiled OA .7.0 for Mac. Basically a Mac OS X Native app is a self contained application. However it also gives the user the ability to "Show Package Contents" when the application is right clicked on to bring up the contextual menu associated with the application. Inside this stuff is the baseOA folder. How do I install UrbanTerror using only the pk3 files instead of the Win32 .EXE installer which will never work on a Mac.

EDITED Addition

I have tested some of my favourite models and a map in OA so far and they all work, however I can't get UT to install. To help you guys understand my situation, just think of the UT Mod installation using the pk3 files as you would just drop them in the baseq3 folder of Q3A. Can someone help?

Well, you could always enable autodownload and then search for an UT server in the master server list :P

If I remember correctly, you need to place the UT folder in the root of OpenArena, and not in the BASEOA folder.

Thanx, I got the UT mod to load, but when I try to connect to a game, it gives me an error. I'll see what I can do to rectify it. Thanx anywa for the help.

Try it with their binary, it is a standalone game now.

the easiest ways is to enable auto download and join a mod server, i have no idea why oa has it off on default XD, there is urban terror 2.5, the rainbow mods, exessive plus, and rctf(which owns btw)

i have no idea why oa has it off on default XD

Because there's always a potential risk of malicious code coming via autodownload to a hard drive near you :P

Only one way to prevent malicious content, be it .pk3 or virus.
