Hello. Who would I speak with concerning porting and license questions with OpenArena? I want to port OA for commercial use. I have read the "about" but need things clarified by the P.I.C. Thanks.

Open Arena is licensed under the GPL which allows commercial use (see the license text here: http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.html)

If you wish to distribute under a different license then you must obtain written permission from all of the contributors to the project including all coders, mappers, artists, etc. was well as from Id software.

Thanks would u consider porting to a mobile device falling under the first license for commercial use?

yes that's totally ok, as long as you redistribute it under the same licence (GPL) and release the modified source code.

The main thing you can't do is :
Selling openarena without giving its ported source code.

I suppose you can port the source code to any architecture you wish.
Once you've done this, you'll have to distribute explicitely under GPL licence your source code, modifications included.
I'm not a lawyer nor even a developper, just a simple OA player, but you should get a good understanding on what GPL and free softwares are.

i think so they should be cuz the maps are released under GPL....i think (i don't no much about the CopyRight things so don't get ur answer from this post :) )

Anything which is contained in the ZIP file you get from this website is under GPL. Maps are included.
Unless you got some maps from somewhere else on the internet ...
