got a link, searching for "texture pack" only brings up your post here :)

Edit : got it - http://openarena.ws/board/index.php?topic=1968.0

the pack gets identified as non-pure when its on the server, this seems to mean if the client doesnt have it its fine, they just still have the missing texture problem.

That is better because you can turn on sv_allowdownload then the client will just need to download the small pak.

If the client does not have the map then they will have to have cl_allowdownload on to connect, they would also download the texture pak from the server too.

A pk3 is considered pure when the size and name of the file matches the servers pk3's.

A better idea would be to open up the map pk3 file using winrar/winzip (whatever app you use) then drag the textures folder (or the contents) to the textures folder in the map pk3. Chances are there will be a textures folder in the map pack, if not just create one. That means the client will have the map and textures pak in one download.

Your map will be a fair size if it's a custom large one so the file size of the texture files won't make much difference.  If you have a number of maps then best have the textures pak for the clients to download. It says on that post don't put them in baseoa but I don't think it really matters since it is just a file full of images. That wont cause a client to disconnect, the pak just wont load if sv_pure 1

But then *everybody* will have to download it, including those who already have the map. Does having 1 download instead of 2 downloads really make a difference?

True. Didn't think of that.

I'm not sure of the reasons why this isnt included in the game anyway as it's better than people having missing textures.
