Title: Help me fix my ping Post by: E]x[F-RoBoJeW on January 27, 2009, 06:46:40 PM Currently im using Cricket wireless to access the internet. The top speed of this connection is 230.4kbps (yeah I know) However this should not be much of a problem for this connection since with a 56k modem you can play good with a not so high ping..
But im running 300 ping in a room that normally has me at 40-50 ping. Not only that I lose alot of incoming packages and sometimes hit spike lag... actually most of the time.. Someone on another site told me to open up some ports to fix this problem. But my question is. What can I do to improve my connection.. Cause its not stable at all. I Thanks thanks in advance Title: Re: Help me fix my ping Post by: Marble of Doom on January 27, 2009, 09:08:11 PM I use 10 year old apple airport wifi cards on both my computers and only get 250-300 kbps on each. I found that limiting my fps lowers my ping pretty well. Type /com_maxfps (then a number) in the console to set your maximum fps lower than what you have now. I think it says the default max is 85. You can set it from 1 - 1million but anything under 25fps seems stuttery and anything too high (lets say 1million) wont do you any good. Peoples average fps is 125 but the game is just as smooth at 60. I use /com_maxfps 30 cause my old computers cant get over 60fps ;)
Title: Re: Help me fix my ping Post by: HITMAN on January 28, 2009, 09:29:42 AM If you do that, your gameplay will be very choppy and hard to control. I would not recommend lowering your fps. Besides, playing 3D online games as quick as OA on a wireless signal aint a good formula for a good time playing, especially playing on the Nemesis server which is typically packed. Somehow get a wired connection to return to your former true self Robo
P.S. We woulda murdered sns and beerman if you had a better ping lastnight :D They got lucky! Title: Re: Help me fix my ping Post by: Cacatoes on January 29, 2009, 06:54:10 AM I quite always play using wifi, i'm quite near from the wifi router so that may limit problems. I'm not getting really better if I plug it with ethernet, so, wifi is convenient and doesn't always screw up everything ;)
