Title: no cinematics Post by: lyndon on April 24, 2009, 02:49:51 AM hi
i'm using open arena and i really really like playing it! i'd also really like to be able to watch the cinematics. i searched this forum but couldn't find an answer to my question, which is why don't any of the tier cinematics work? the only cinematic that dos work is the id logo. do i have to finish the game before i get to watch the cinematics? i'm uncertain if i just don't have them or they have to be earned, because everytime i finish a teir it would seen that a new cinematic has been unlocked but when i try to click on it to watch it nothing happens. thanks l Title: Re: no cinematics Post by: fromhell on April 24, 2009, 02:58:35 AM They don't exist.
Title: Re: no cinematics Post by: pulchr on April 24, 2009, 05:42:52 AM i imagine that instead of the quake 3 tier cinematics, that introduces the bots for the tier, that the openarena cinematics could be a short glimpse of the maps in the unlocked tier. for example we could arrange some players to record demos playing the characters in that tier on those maps. just a couple of short snippets edited together with the sound effects and some music. and then converted using the .roq format. it might work :)

Title: Re: no cinematics Post by: cosmo on April 24, 2009, 07:25:30 AM pulchr I like your idea. Having very short sequences of a character of the selected tier is doing nifty things in a map of that tier.
Still we need a native speaker to get better bot chats in Single Player. Any volunteers? The announcer should name the bot when ever he/she is entering combat too. Title: Re: no cinematics Post by: chaoticsoldier on April 25, 2009, 12:23:55 AM Still we need a native speaker to get better bot chats in Single Player. Any volunteers? I'll put my hand up. I was actually looking at some of the Initial Chats (_t.c files) just yesterday. Notably Angelyss, Dark, Rai and Tanisha have almost identical chat files and Neko speaks very inarticulate Engrish (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Engrish). Many chats for other bots are very similar to each other. There's quite a bit of work to be done. If I know what personalities each of the bots will have, I can tailor the chats to be more specific. IMO Ideally, each bot should have a diverse and unique range of chat lines (although some repetition could be acceptable/unavoidable). I'm currently creating a spreadsheet with every bot's chat lines so I can easily compare them side-by-side. Then it will become clear exactly what needs to be done. Title: Re: no cinematics Post by: fromhell on April 25, 2009, 12:27:48 AM yeah, bot chat lines isn't really my strong point, most of them were done by dmn_clown.
Title: Re: no cinematics Post by: chaoticsoldier on April 25, 2009, 12:38:26 AM Still, many of the lines are worth keeping. Gargoyle is a good example.
I have a question: What do I do with the copyright notice in the files? It says "Copyright (C) 2006 Dmn_clown (aka: Bob Isaac (rjisaac@gmail.com))" When I change the bot chats, what do I do with this? It says "Copyright (C) 2006 Dmn_clown (aka: Bob Isaac (rjisaac@gmail.com))" The normal procedure is to add a line saying that you modified the file: "Modified 2009-04-25 by <IDENTIFIER>". Eventual with a brief note after the license information with a brief description on what you changed. When I change the bot chats, what do I do with this? Some of the other files like rnd.c will be difficult to edit by making changes here and there because I want to move or change so much. Is there a way I can just start from scratch and copy Dmn_clown's lines back into the files as I want them (while also editing punctuation and spelling), and still credit him properly?
