Hi there,

i tried to learn inkscape and made some q3-medals
for the missing medals look at http://openarena.ws/board/index.php?topic=1113.0 , looks pretty good.

rename *.pk3.zip to *.pk3 and put it in your baseoa folder.

PS: yes, you can laught....the excellent-medal looks really bad

Edit: added assist medal...its not really a remake...but i like it

assist.png looks like.. diplomat.png (trying to make peace with the enemy), because the "colors" of the teams in CTF are red and blue, so red and blue are enemies, they don't shake hands. :)

Jeah...had the same thoughts :)
But the colors dont represent the team(because there is only one icon for assist),
and in monochrome-style  it looks bad.

schlorri, how about making the other hand to have outlines only, but make the whole icon of a single colour? I do like the idea of handshakes, it's like "thanks for assistance" :)

I understand the colors don't represent the teams, but they happen to be the same as the colors of the teams, and users will be confused IMO.

I attached a suggestion.

What would it look like if you did it the other way around (the hand on the right which is behind the other one would have outlines and the one on front would be solid)? Just wondering.

Assist is only for CTF ?
I never liked representation of handshakes.

I don't think the AP would have sued if the lithograph wasn't considerably more valuable than their original photograph. :P

Q3A is great game. I can certainly understand the appeal of remaking its medals. It just might be in poor taste to include them a project like OA when id still has commercial interest in the property ( Quake Live).

I look forward to GPL release of the idtech 4 engine source. It would be a shame if id had second thoughts for fear of devaluing their IP.

And is the idea of the Assist-medal so bad (its not a quake remake...)?

OA has a blue figure jumping from an explosion with a blue flag. The explosion symbolizing your assistance.

but in my opinion it looks like shooting the flag-carrier(would be a nice award too)

my only complaint about inkscape is its a pain to get it to interoperate with illustrator (for other people using crapdobe)
its absolutely incredible when combining it with gimp though...

i think the assist medal is given when you kill the other teams flag carrier and return your own flag...that would be the mindset behind the original medal design

it's pretty ambiguous though...kind of like the defense medal...

Assist is given when you kill the flag carrier, someone returns and then someone captures or
you return the flag and someone captures.
(someone=you is possible)

Inkscape rules and looks very nice in Tex too.
I dont know Adobe, "worked"(wild clicking) with gimp :)

Heck if i know...i was referring to illustrator being able to open/edit/save svg's from inkscape...it can't, you lose stuff...and i don't want to learn how to "convert" stuff...

Using gimp, I was referring to inkscape exporting to a png...then editing it with gimp "as needed."   For gfx design, i hate raster edit stuff...cuz I'm really not that good with pen/paper...let alone a mouse...id rather draw abstractly with vectors :)
