Title: openarena website domainhijacked. Post by: davidd on November 28, 2009, 01:20:54 PM I got this record back from a dig, asked for help in #rainbow and got the right ip.
openarena.ws. 3600 IN A 68.178.232.99 this points to a go-daddy parked domain. if you want the real website for sure, add this line to /etc/hosts (or c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts with notepad if you use a stupidly licensed OS) 76.74.252.88 openarena.ws Title: Re: openarena website domainhijacked. Post by: Neon_Knight on November 28, 2009, 01:37:47 PM Yep... most of us saw the same.
Great that it's back... Title: Re: openarena website domainhijacked. Post by: davidd on November 28, 2009, 02:53:09 PM No it is not back as far as i can see, it is expired, but with a lucky dns cache i still got on.
Title: Re: openarena website domainhijacked. Post by: Udi on November 28, 2009, 02:58:29 PM Hmmm, so it wasn't cracked, but the domain expired and wasn't renewed. Maybe it's time for another ending instead of .ws, maybe .org? Just an idea...
Title: Re: openarena website domainhijacked. Post by: Falkland on November 28, 2009, 03:05:01 PM Yeah , it has expired
Code: openarena.ws But hopefully it was renewed and the registar doesn't update yet its records else I cannot explain to myself why the site is still accessible (dig just gives me back the correct address ) Title: Re: openarena website domainhijacked. Post by: chaoticsoldier on November 28, 2009, 05:12:47 PM ...Maybe it's time for another ending instead of .ws, maybe .org? Just an idea... Last time the .org domain was on sale, it cost a fortune: http://openarena.ws/board/index.php?topic=2120.0 (http://openarena.ws/board/index.php?topic=2120.0) Now you have to make an offer: http://www.sedo.com/search/details.php4?domain=openarena.org&partnerid=14460&language=e&et_cid=25&et_lid=65 (http://www.sedo.com/search/details.php4?domain=openarena.org&partnerid=14460&language=e&et_cid=25&et_lid=65) According to these statistics (http://whois.domaintools.com/openarena.org), the .org domain was created even before the birth of this project. Title: Re: openarena website domainhijacked. Post by: bill----- on November 28, 2009, 11:26:31 PM So, who is the GoDaddy domain account holder?
Title: Re: openarena website domainhijacked. Post by: fromhell on November 29, 2009, 02:09:37 AM Not me! The domain is owned by fuzztooth (As is the web server).
I wanted to have a Paypal button on the site to allow contributions of donations towards the hosting and the domain that i'm paying a grand total of $0 for, towards the owner (fuzztooth). The old site as it stands now doesn't have the versatility for such thing, so it's slated for the new one, which is coming as soon as the 0.8.5 patch comes. I forgot all about the domain's expiry, but GoDaddy should have sent reminder emails prior to expiration. If the .ws is dropped, I can only think of alternatives: openarena.mancubus.net, but that may make id software angry as Mancubus is a reference to their fat Doom2/3 monster openarena.tuxfamily.org, but tuxfamily isn't a domain name that signifies neutrality between win32 and mac openarena.tk / openarena.cjb.net (HAHA JUST KIDDING!) Title: Re: openarena website domainhijacked. Post by: Udi on November 29, 2009, 02:31:55 AM Right now I have 40 USD on my PayPal account I can donate to OA. It will probably cover 2 years of domain registration, or some of the server costs I guess. What's the e-mail for fuzztooth's PayPal account so I can send him?
Title: Re: openarena website domainhijacked. Post by: Udi on November 29, 2009, 02:50:53 AM A twitter account could come handy in such cases, but I checked and a hater already got it (http://twitter.com/openarena). But fortunately he didn't wrote anything since June, so maybe we could ask the twitter staff to remove it and it give to us.
Title: Re: openarena website domainhijacked. Post by: davidd on November 29, 2009, 06:12:35 AM I pointed openarena.zvdk.nl to the ip, only the webserver needs to accept the handle
why not pay for the .ws domain btw? how much would that cost. Will the account on the webserver expire as well? I wouldnt mind running the website. David. Title: Re: openarena website domainhijacked. Post by: sago007 on November 29, 2009, 08:13:44 AM why not pay for the .ws domain btw? how much would that cost. Around 15-30$ if done within 40 days from expire +100$ if within 40-70 days of expire, 10000$+ if after 75 days. But it is registered to fuzztooth and it is he who can renew it or transfer it. Title: Re: openarena website domainhijacked. Post by: bill----- on November 29, 2009, 11:05:18 AM I'll do the $ for the domain name - 3 years of GoDaddy is pretty cheap. Contact info (or introduction) for fuzztooth? PM me if needed. Title: Re: openarena website domainhijacked. Post by: Neon_Knight on November 30, 2009, 06:25:17 AM At this point, OA "died" and "resurrected" so many times, that it's pretty hard to think on the death of OA. :D

Post by: Udi on November 30, 2009, 09:01:02 AM At this point, OA "died" and "resurrected" so many times, that it's pretty hard to think on the death of OA. :D Exactly, it's said that if there's a rumour about somebody's death, than that person will live a long life :). Title: Re: openarena website domainhijacked. Post by: Neon_Knight on November 30, 2009, 09:05:43 AM And even tho, many people are still expecting and awaiting the true death of OA, so their egos will be fulfilled with more ego...
