Title: New-ish Here, Looking to Help Post by: TonySkullz on February 04, 2010, 07:40:07 AM Hi there; my first post here but I've lurked off and on for some time. Checking this time around I was glad to finally see more active development on the game (new versions are nice). I'm a graphic and website designer (professionally) with experience making 2D textures and interfaces and am looking to help out with whatever is needed most. I've only done graphic work for one game (GunZ private servers), but I've played with it for a good two and a half years and have gotten quite decent at it and am wanting to actually take a good stab at this. Here's some of my past work on GunZ:
Map Textures WIP Mansion :: Balcony (http://i50.tinypic.com/awepzp.jpg) WIP Mansion :: Wall Detail (http://i47.tinypic.com/34nnm1z.jpg) WIP Mansion :: Door Detail (http://i48.tinypic.com/1zq7wvs.jpg) Futura City :: City Hall (http://i50.tinypic.com/2w3qpz9.jpg) Futura City :: Clock Tower (http://i48.tinypic.com/9i6wsw.jpg) Futura City :: Exit Gate (http://i47.tinypic.com/j81xr6.jpg) Futura City :: Back Alley (http://i46.tinypic.com/2ce27gp.jpg) Futura City :: Side Street (http://i48.tinypic.com/25p6ye0.jpg) Futura City :: Tagged (http://i45.tinypic.com/51d9he.jpg) Effects Fire (http://i49.tinypic.com/1znbj36.jpg) Electricity (http://i47.tinypic.com/2jb13y9.jpg) Interfaces Lobby (http://i47.tinypic.com/2qa0cqa.jpg) Shop (http://i50.tinypic.com/2rws1ok.jpg) Game Lobby (http://i47.tinypic.com/30hsny9.jpg) HP/AP/EXP Gauge (http://i48.tinypic.com/9i6wsw.jpg) Everything here besides the WIP is almost 2 years old, I've learned a good bit in that time so my textures now should be of higher quality. Kind of like what you see in the WIP Mansion pics, though with more direction cause I was just doing that out of boredom one afternoon. Also, a point of clarification: GunZ mapping is very basic, I was only allowed to change the texture images. It also doesn't have shaders or anything so it's just images on flat surfaces, which is why you see so much pseudo-lighting in my map textures (only way to add clarity). I've done more stuff but I don't have screenshots for this all and I think I should wrap up this part now. Back to point, I'd like to contribute creatively to whatever is needed. I can do most any 2D textures, interfaces, logos, website work, you name it. My girlfriend and I are active photographers so I have tons of high-res stock textures to work with as well; most of which I would release if wanted/needed. All I need is some input on what is needed; I looked around but didn't find many clear answers. Anyway, sorry for the long first post, and thank you to anyone who can point me the right way here. =] Title: Re: New-ish Here, Looking to Help Post by: Graion Dilach on February 04, 2010, 09:15:40 AM Texture contribution is always a good thing. Sad for me that I have no skill within it.
As you may know, the textures you'd like to contribute must be licensed with the GPLv2. OpenArena's current goal is to have all Quake 3 replacement textures. I suggest speaking with Udi, he's the main developer in this question. http://openarena.ws/board/index.php?topic=2823.50 (http://openarena.ws/board/index.php?topic=2823.50) Title: Re: New-ish Here, Looking to Help Post by: Udi on February 04, 2010, 10:45:52 AM As Graion Dilach mentioned the Q3 replacement textures are important for the next major release. As for stock photos, please consider releasing some of them under the Public License, and contributing them to the Bruning Well (http://www.burningwell.org/), so not just OA but the whole open source community could benefit form them.
You can also help with the webdesign, as this is not the final one. I planned to work on it in February, but since I'm rather a sitebuilder than a designer it is better to leave that job for a more experienced contributor :). I can give you the current sources, but I think a classic collaboration would be the best, you give me a .PSD or .XCF and I'll do the CSS and templetes. There are also plans about a new scriptable game UI where you could help, but as for now it's the least important thing. Title: Re: New-ish Here, Looking to Help Post by: TonySkullz on February 04, 2010, 04:59:16 PM Yeah, I had a look at the replacement textures list but it was insanely long and I didn't even know where to start there, lol.
On the stocks, I can release them however; as long as I get proper credit at the source of it. Website design is near the highest quality work I do, I've probably got more hours writing HTML/CSS than graphic work. I'm sure you'd like how minimalistic (but fully compliant) my HTML/CSS is, so it'd be good to let me get a hand in writing it up too if I was to make a design. I'm also very familiar with working with CMS/Forum template systems and themes, so we could pretty much collab on everything for an awesome end result. Do you guys have an IRC chat or something so we could rough out some concepts when you have the time? The scriptable UI sounds nice, I could definitely help out when it's ready for more focus. nice to see new faces =) Title: Re: New-ish Here, Looking to Help Post by: Udi on February 05, 2010, 03:21:56 AM Do you guys have an IRC chat or something so we could rough out some concepts when you have the time? The channel on Anynet is considered to be the official: irc.anynet.org/#openarena . I'm usually online from 19:00-22:00 (UTC+1), according to your profile you have UTC-6, so if timezones are a problem we could use PM, or e-mail (my e-mail is on my profile page). (Note to self: should we add phpBB like contact buttons to the bottom of the posts?) Title: Re: New-ish Here, Looking to Help Post by: Graion Dilach on February 05, 2010, 03:29:56 AM (Note to self: should we add phpBB like contact buttons to the bottom of the posts?) SMF handles them under the avatar, not under the post by default... and all the OA ones hasn't changed this. :) Title: Re: New-ish Here, Looking to Help Post by: TonySkullz on February 05, 2010, 04:02:47 AM The channel on Anynet is considered to be the official: irc.anynet.org/#openarena . I am UTC-6 but I'm a nightowl so I'm usually just waking up about the time you get on, actually. I'll catch you on sometime soon. *nods* hi, hello and welcome! nice to see new faces =) Thank you! Fun times.. hehe. :p -Baba. |
