Title: Open Arena Facebook Group? Post by: Logan on July 21, 2010, 07:14:12 AM I was wondering if Open Arena has an official Facebook group?
I'd love to join, and keep up to date on any important info regarding the game and it's development. If this doesn't exist yet, I think It would be a great idea. It will definitely help the game get more publicity, since you can easily suggest the group to your friends. Thoughts and Opinions? Title: Re: Open Arena Facebook Group? Post by: GrosBedo on July 21, 2010, 07:52:00 AM No.
Why do you want to soil this beautiful game with FB XD Title: Re: Open Arena Facebook Group? Post by: Logan on July 21, 2010, 07:53:18 AM No. Why do you want to soil this beautiful game with FB XD Hmm... What's wrong with Facebook? Title: Re: Open Arena Facebook Group? Post by: Bane on July 21, 2010, 08:22:04 AM Sounds like it might work. There was a MMO I use to play called Sherwood Dungeon and when the creator was looking to pull in more players he used facebook and it did help out.
Title: Re: Open Arena Facebook Group? Post by: Logan on July 21, 2010, 08:26:16 AM I've found that Facebook makes it very easy to share things your interested in with others, and lately It's been very good at automatically suggesting things you might like based on your interests in a very good and relaxed way.
Title: Re: Open Arena Facebook Group? Post by: Neon_Knight on July 21, 2010, 08:42:27 AM There're several groups and a page. And someone made me as an admin of one of these pages, even without I knowing who's the other admin.
Title: Re: Open Arena Facebook Group? Post by: Logan on July 21, 2010, 09:55:41 AM Yea, I have joined one of the Open Arena pages, but that's not official.
Wouldn't it be awesome to get the occasional news feed post directly from the developers of the game? Title: Re: Open Arena Facebook Group? Post by: Graion Dilach on July 21, 2010, 10:01:57 AM Wait a second... is that a group or what? I know I'm a member of that... but honestly, I'm not an expert on Facebook.

BTW, seriously... what harm could do a Facebook group/page to the game? All of the other free software games out there had a page. Title: Re: Open Arena Facebook Group? Post by: Logan on July 23, 2010, 02:35:13 AM OFFICIAL! WANT!
fromhell are you the leader? Let's make it happen! ;D Title: Re: Open Arena Facebook Group? Post by: dbX on July 23, 2010, 03:30:19 AM I could go for an OA group too since I'm already using facebook. I've too found many groups, but no official one.
Title: Re: Open Arena Facebook Group? Post by: Udi on July 23, 2010, 03:50:33 AM We could make that group official which Neon_Knight has admin rights to.
Title: Re: Open Arena Facebook Group? Post by: Logan on July 23, 2010, 05:46:24 AM We could make that group official which Neon_Knight has admin rights to. Ya, that could work. Right? Title: Re: Open Arena Facebook Group? Post by: NetMassimo on July 23, 2010, 06:34:20 AM So far I've been reading the group http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=13282914804 because it was the one dedicated to Open Arena with the highest number of members when I searched.
There are still other Open Arena groups, we just have to decide which one we'd rather use when we're on Facebook. Title: Re: Open Arena Facebook Group? Title: Re: Open Arena Facebook Group? Post by: Neon_Knight on July 24, 2010, 08:23:42 AM Yeah... however, I'm still waiting for an answer to this:
No. Why do you want to soil this beautiful game with FB XD BTW, seriously... what harm could do a Facebook group/page to the game? All of the other free software games out there had a page. Title: Re: Open Arena Facebook Group? Post by: HITMAN on July 26, 2010, 09:16:46 AM I dont think its possible to have an "Official OpenArena Facebook Group" since no one technically owns OpenArena. The game is collaboration of developers, coders and players that makes this game work. Therefore, there will be many groups in FB that will be created by fans of the game.
The only true way to make an "official" page is if everyone collaborates, creates the group and advertise it on the OA userinterface. Whether it be on the game itself and/or on the main OA website. Until then, we will have just OA Fans pages. Title: Re: Open Arena Facebook Group? Post by: Logan on July 27, 2010, 02:35:55 AM Then tell me, what's the story with Fromhell?

Post by: Haverford on July 27, 2010, 10:28:38 AM I've been in both groups for a long time now, and I'm fairly sure that the more recent new members of my clan have actually heard about the game by seeing the groups listed on my Facebook page (and my Interests, etc).
Some of them actually use Facebook as a way of sharing their screenshots by making public albums, since their profiles are pretty much empty otherwise. I don't, personally, but I don't mind if people find me + friend me, as long as I know who they are! I'm already friends with most of my clan members and a few from other clans. XD Silly me. Title: Re: Open Arena Facebook Group? Post by: Thoushaltdie on July 27, 2010, 03:24:06 PM i have three friends who i have been telling for years to stop playing sh*t like cod and play oa. They have never once even checked out the game's website, but they automatically clicked the accept button when i invited them to the group which proded them into checking out the game and they

Always nice to hear. :) Title: Re: Open Arena Facebook Group? Post by: Haverford on July 29, 2010, 07:41:18 AM Even nicer to be a part of!
I'm gonna make a blog post about it - lots of my friends read my blog (I think/hope) so perhaps it'll get someone interested. I've moved from "I wanna get more clan members" to "I wanna get more OA players" ...about time for that. *sigh* I wish open-source would catch on. My friend(s) were all quite confused about the installation process (they use Windows 7, again, *sigh*) and had no idea what to do with the config I gave them - it's what I use, and it's quite nice if I say so myself ^_^ - but hey, progress is progress. protip: the words "free" and "open-source" don't quite cut it - flash games are free and open-source to most people means "Wikipedia, that thing I use for research papers." Try "Yo, you always see me playing this game and ask why I play it. Try it yourself!" (or "yeah? I always see you playing CoD and frankly I don't understand why you play it. Back in my day, that was a fish.) Title: Re: Open Arena Facebook Group? Post by: GoD|Ston3r on August 09, 2010, 06:00:39 AM Here is the OpenArena facebook links i know :
