Title: SVN Version
Post by: SolidusRegime on May 28, 2007, 05:36:24 PM
I have heard a lot of talk about something called the SVN version. I downloaded the game from the Ubuntu 7.04 repositries, so I have no idea how I go about installing an SVN version.

Could someone explain to me what it is and how I go about installing it?

You won't be able to play on most of the servers if you use the latest revision as the pk3 checksums are different.  You only need to use the SVN if you intend to contribute :)

Okay then. Well when I try to connect to a lot of servers, it always tells me that I don't have the correct map files. Is there a place where I can download maps for multiplayer use?

Some servers have homepages where they made their map rotation available for direct download. BeerGarden would be a fine example. Of course that won't always be the case. If you have enabled the autodownload feature in game options and still can't get the maps, then I suggest you try a different server.

You need to enable 'Auto Download' in options or you will be disconnected with an uninformative error.

For some reason it displays "Error: map nor found" instead of "Error: autodownload not enabled". It is a correct error message but can't be used for anything.

Is there anywhere you can get a working copy of the SVN version??

Already compiled??

I don't think so. SVN is constantly modified, thus by the time one compiles it, it's probably already obsolete (plus I don't think distributing freely a work in progress is a good idea :P).
