Not all mods work with Open Arena so your best choice is to download them, configure them and then try them. Here are a few mods that I personally have tried on enclosed servers with only a few users. Client has been Open Arena 0.7.0 and the settings are pure vanilla, but that doesn't mean that it will provide the same results for you, or for anyone else that tries any of these modifications.

  • Excessive+ (http://www.excessiveplus.net/) - The lightning gun is missing it's texture
  • Freeze Tag (http://freeze.planetquake.gamespy.com/) - Some animation errors can occur while players get frozen.
  • Freestyle Arena (http://planetquake.gamespy.com/View.php?view=MOTW.Detail&id=216) - Server-side experiences weird error messages continuously.
  • CorkScrew (http://fire.planetquake.gamespy.com/corkscrew/index.html) - Bots, but also players, sometimes generate Weapon Out Of Range errors.
  • RealRockets (http://fire.planetquake.gamespy.com/realrockets/index.html) - Scoring is simply to difficult as the award system doesn't work.
  • DeFRag (http://defrag.planetquake.gamespy.com/) - The variable df_mp_Interference, if set to 3, can sometimes generate long list of server errors.
  • CPMA (http://www.challenge-tv.com/index.php?mode=filedetail&file=106&dl=106) - Railgun texture is missing and some work (http://openarena.ws/board/index.php?topic=555.0) is required to even make it start under Open Arena.
There you have a few of the mods I have tried, hope this help somewhat.
