Title: Truly Free sound resources
Post by: fromhell on June 02, 2008, 01:00:53 PM
The internet is so full of "FREE SOUNDS!!!" it's misleading because in reality they're non-Free copyrighted materials. This plagues almost every FOSS game out there and i'm not letting it get to OpenArena (or any other of my babies) so i'm listing strictly Free stuff here:

Partially lifted from our thread hijack (http://openarena.ws/board/index.php?topic=2333.0).  Might be edited for additions later.

Sound generation and processing (if you really hate recording):

  • By the way: Do you know of any sound file format/sound project file format (by some application) which can be a "source" format for sound effects? Do you for example use some kind of sound-generation-language and could provide the scripts that generate the sound?

"Csound (http://www.csounds.com/about) is a sound design, music synthesis and signal processing system, providing facilities for composition and performance over a wide range of platforms. It is not restricted to any style of music, having been used for many years in the creation of classical, pop, techno, ambient, experimental, and (of course) computer music, as well as music for film and television."

LGPL.  Sort of a programming language and machine, but for sound.  Never used it, but I've heard about it a lot.
