Title: Auto-downloading maps?
Post by: BrainChemistry on June 03, 2008, 01:50:25 PM
Hi there,

I wonder, many games based upon q3a, e.g. ET, TC:E, and such allow the user to auto-download missing maps upon connection to a server. This doesn't seem to be supported in OA. Is that true or am I doing something wrong?

Greets

Sorry if there is another topic discussin this, I couldn't find any.

It can be enabled in "options". It is off by default and so is it in all the games you mentioned. An extra problem is that you cannot restrict to only download maps, so a server admin can place an zzz_pak on a users computer making the game weird to the user especially if the user isn't aware.

Some servers might choose to not enable it because there map pack is a single pk3 file and 100+ MB.

Most servers allow autodownload I am pretty sure.

cl_allowdownload 1
or
settings>gameoptions>automatic downloading on

I think that the autodownload speed for oa is quite a bit better than q3a

Yes that's why I like to play Defrag with the vast amount of maps. Highspeed auto-downloading => soooo comfortable! Wot a pity that there's no  one decent defrag server @ 0.7.7 atm :-(

You're right. That I was looking for :).

That is pretty sure wrong. The default in other games, especially the mentioned ones, should be ON. I never specifically switched such an option to download maps; they were just downloading :).

Thanks@all.
