I think the shotgun is currently a bit too loud, but in the video it could be a little bit louder. Still: video shotgun sound > current shotgun sound

The railgun sounds like the cute pretty white portal gun from portal. Not fitting I'd say.

if i made it any louder it'll be distorted.

i know from experience that shotgun cocking sounds are ridiculously hard to foley -- the shotgun sound i made took about a week on and off

it was going to be included as part of a "weapon pack" on freesound (i'm nthompson there) but in the move to my new computer i forgot about it

so here's shotty.wav anyway

it's public domain or whatever

p.s. put some flange over the railgun for massive damage

Nice distorty blast but damn that cock is so swishy. You should get that checked.

/me waits for this post to be quoted out of context

I don't get flange in audacity :(

That distortion at the start of the sound effect is horrible. There is no way I'd want to use this regularly.

i didn't really think it was all that bad :/

i wasn't satisfied with it when i was done, but i wouldn't call it horrible

if you can make a better-sounding sample i'd love to hear it :)

I don't know what flange is but I found this: http://digitalramblings-0612.blogspot.com/2007/10/audacity-flanger-tutorial.html (copy-paste to texted for reading, my eyes bleed)

I wrote to http://www.kimburgess.info/contact.html asking to release his shotgun sounds http://www.freesound.org/packsViewSingle.php?id=2947 under gpl.

EDIT http://qubodup.googlepages.com/muffin.ogg vs. http://qubodup.googlepages.com/old.ogg (in-game) I really don't know what is better.

Kim Burgess replied, I asked about getting the sfx under gpl, the answer was kind of: "No can do, I want to be credited!"

The GPLv3 allows requiring attribution http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-3.0-standalone.html#section7 but I don't think gpl2 does. =(

The following hint on how to produce fps gun sounds was also in the reply:

Quote
When it comes to first person weapon sound I usually find the most effect
way to approach the sound design is to visualize the individual actions
taking place and design the audio for that segment then merge and layer the
said assets either into a linear file or using real-time mixing in the games
audio engine. For example, the couchgun is a blackpowder firearm so there is
the initial click of the hammer shortly followed by a two blackpowder
explosions (there's two barrels, each firing a few milliseconds apart) which
is proceeded by reflections from the surrounding environment. To make it
more game/movie-ish you can compress the crap out of the explosion section
and add a bit of harmonic distortion to simulate the ears distorion of
sudden loudness.

i assumed everybody recorded things separately then combined them – recording in one take would be fairly difficult v:)v

also: couchgun haha

I do that

One take sucks

Also recording actual gunfire for gunfire noises suck too. Real AK-47s will never sound like a Counter-Strike AK-47.
:P
