Title: New sound effects in the 0.8 version
Post by: nikam on August 19, 2008, 05:54:21 AM
Hi all,

I would like to know if it's possible to change the new sound effects in the 0.8 version.
I don't like them at all , especially when you fire and hit an opponent , i can hardly hear the new effect, so i don't know when i touch an ennemy ...
I would like to rollback to the 0.7.7 effects .. is it possible ?

thanks in advance for your answers

Regards,

Nicolas

even if you rollback to the 0.7.7 sounds you still won't hear it. This is because two sounds are missing.

Build a new pk3 with old sounds, and use it on unpure servers, it would work.

personally, i loved the old hit sound.

it's there (http://www.jazzmobile.it/jackoverfull/games/openarena/upack1-hitsound.pk3) if you want it again, just drop the file in baseoa.

it will be automatically disabled on pure servers, right? it will not cause you to be incapable to join?

Disabled on pure server and doesn't prevent you to join, that's right.
(I modified standard .pk3 and was able to join some)

You can try these. Hopefully they will sound ok for all weapons, I tried to minimise the changes.

Hm...

For the record:
  • Weapon / ammo pickups
  • Weapon switch
  • Out-of-ammo click
  • Kyonshi (some of pixie's Major / Angelyss voices are clipped, louder than the others)
  • Announcer
  • Hitsound (I can hear it :(), (lack of) lightning scorch (which is something else)
  • Shotgun
  • Plasma
  • Railgun
  • Grenade bounce
  • Grenade / rocket explosion (now a quiet 'puff' like prox mine, though the old one did sound like stock -- anyone notice?)
  • Missionpack paraphernalia (not quite in 0.7.7, so doesn't exactly count)

Dunno about you, but I really happened to like them after getting acclimated for a few days (sounds like the Pidgin mailing list, I know).

With all the other "not like" comments... this feels very wrong.

(Note, not of the same opinion for the Unreal 220 sounds, however... but that's another story...)

In memory of Flipendo, brand new sounds for :
- weapons
- models: ayumi, assassin, sorceress, angelyss, sarge, arachna
- announcer (feedback)

Hahaha :D
It sounds like I'm in a zoo and a mental hospital at the same time. The machine gun is hilarious. :D
I think it's just what Flipendo wanted.

Now all we need are the hover boards, roaming animals, pillows and mini-games...

You can change them if you don't want.

PS: how to change sounds for merman. I replaced them in pk2-players.pk3 and created new archive (i deleted old one), and i still have same sounds. (All old sounds of merman are deleted). I have 64-bit Ubuntu.

Do not edit standard pk3, it will make your client unpure and you won't be able to join some servers anymore.

Rather create a new pk3, respect pathes of files inside this pk3, then it should work.

and remember that the name of the new pk3 must be alphabetically after the original ones ;-)

or i'm missing something about a recent ioq3 change? (Naaa!)

I have 2 OAs One is pure with no modifications, and one is testing version. So no problem with that. Anyway i'll try making new pk3.

First, i want to say thanks for the game, to all the team of Openarena, its awasome.

Well. the sounds of the version 0.8 its really awasome, its more natural, realistic,

in the real life I shot real arms, and the better i like its the sound of the Shotgun, its so realistic,

the sound of the Machinegun its so realistic to.

These sounds are surpriseme, really.

I shot real guns because i belong to force army of one Country :)

I was shot machineguns M60 762, arm galil 556 and 762, stag arm M15 M4 A1 556(used in the war of Vietnam, 762), the Shotgun type Marui SPAS, Jericho 9MM, Miniusi; and all the arms we have to learn to shot .

Thanks a lot for the game, thanks a lot.

Great to have feedbacks from experts :P

But I think with openarena, realism isn't the target, "nice effect" is (when both are achieved that's fine).
Quite hard to reproduce a shotgun sound ..

I made my shotgun sound from lightning storm. Recording actual guns wasn't a great idea because it's just a clipping pop

For those who want, Just a .pk3 containing the old 0.7.x hitsound :

http://jolie.techa.free.fr/files/z-0.7-hitsound.pk3

I know, it's cheap :D But it's the main sound issue we have, so while waiting for next patch with hithi and hitlo in it ... ;)
I found missbehaving's .pk3 modified too many things :P
