A page out of haste's Unlagged mod (http://axon.cs.byu.edu/~josh/unlagged/docs/README.html), and something more (or less?) convenient (http://code3arena.planetquake.gamespy.com/tutorials/tutorial41.shtml).

(previously client-side only, which was... not nice (anyone remember ZeroPing?))

Anyone with children should make sure they read extracts from that as their bedtime story, they'll be out for the count in less than two mins :D

It's the same doc I send to people because it's almost guaranteed you don't get asked a single thing about it again :D

unlagged is a useless workaround. you can't beat the lag no matter what

Valid point for people who don't play online ;)

This is not entirely true. Unlagged does not remove lag, it doesn't even reduce it. As mentioned on the sites given it sacrifices virtual consistence to give a better practical gameplay.

So, no it has not removed the lag, but most player will prefer practical gameplay over virtual consistence. People cares less about lag if they can't feel it although you can still see it.

where did I say it removed lag? ...
and your sentences are confusing
"it sacrifices virtual consistence to give a better practical gameplay", "most player will prefer practical gameplay over virtual consistence"

I'm not sure but lag in itself is a term designed to show the effect of high latency during gameplay, so unlagged reduces lag, but does not reduce latency ;-)

Cacatoes happy to have unlagged even if he only plays on servers where he as <20ms of ping :P

more commonly known as unlagged 2.01. Thinking back to my first days on oa makes me laugh playing without it, the only players who don't like it are low pingers. :D My ping wasnt that high either, about 70 but with unlagged you can outplay people with 400+ ping if your good.

It's probably the reason why there has been sudden paranoia regarding the use of cheats - when players realise they aren't as good anymore because they game is more fairer. boo hoo hoo :D
