Title: Nemesis 0.7.1
Post by: Gerbil on October 27, 2008, 10:00:33 PM
The server is down. :(

I heard that alma is just moving the server, and it will be back up soon. If we can get a confirmation of this that would be great. I as well as many others miss it! :D :D
However there is still /oaN/ctf for NA players(just turn on auto download), which is using the battle mod.

I just put up a new West Coast server (Seattle, WA)
Duckpond Customs OA 0.8.1 | 208.43.157.8:27960
Custom map FFA at the moment.

Code:
sv_hostname "Duckpond Customs OA 0.8.1"
sv_maxclients 32
sv_fps 30
sv_allowdownload 1
set sv_wwwDownload "1" // enables the http redirect
set sv_dlURL "http://quakefour.net" // sets the location of the files
set sv_wwwDlDisconnected "1" // disconnects the client while it's downloading the files
set cl_wwwDownload "1" // connects the client again when the download is finished

bot_minplayers 2
timelimit 15
fraglimit 30

g_motd "<Weclome to the DuckPond>"
g_quadfactor 0
g_allowvote 1

g_gametype 0

set d1 "map 1smallmap; set nextmap vstr d2"
set d2 "map distonic_small; set nextmap vstr d3"
set d3 "map academy; set nextmap vstr d4"
set d4 "map jaxdm8; set nextmap vstr d5"
set d5 "map quack lord fivede12; set nextmap vstr d6"

set d8 "map tm3_systemkrash;set nextmap vstr d9"
set d9 "map wrackdm17;set nextmap vstr d10"
set d10 "map charon3dm12; set nextmap vstr d1"

Some of you NA players might notice other servers using the Nemesis name.
To avoid confusion type

/connect 70.32.42.212:27960

/connect 70.32.42.212:27960

the other servers seem all fake ... the servers' responses seem artifacts since they show less players listed than how many they should be.

The addresses of the fake servers are 2 :

76.105.123.249
Code:
Comcast Cable Communications, Inc. JUMPSTART-5 (NET-76-96-0-0-1)
                                  76.96.0.0 - 76.127.255.255
Comcast Cable Communications, Inc. ATLANTA-CPE-16 (NET-76-105-64-0-1)
                                  76.105.64.0 - 76.105.127.255

75.138.78.87
Code:
Charter Communications NETBLK-CHARTER-NET (NET-75-128-0-0-1)
                                  75.128.0.0 - 75.143.255.255
Charter Communications NWN-GA-75-138-64 (NET-75-138-64-0-1)
                                  75.138.64.0 - 75.138.79.255

U should not try to connect to those servers unless u'd know what u are doing.

More infos : every single query produces a different result on every server with a random number of fake players with fake pings, score but with almost the same nicks.

It's probably an application or an engine modification ( it sends this version string ioq3+oa 1.35 linux-i386 Aug 13 2009 ) that sends fake heartbeats to the master server and fake responses to the queries but with coerent data ( with the exception of the effective number of players and the gametype which is set to N and the map set for all as oa_ctf2 )

Argh I really hate servers that self-promote themselves too much with fakers. Good thing the humans only option is there to cut through the faux-popularity cheese.

Indeed, but humans only should be set to default.
Not that one couldn't fake that one, too.

The human only option works on players with zero ping , so since the fake players have not a zero ping in this case , they are listed and reported ... but u've missed the main point here ... those seem to not be regular servers , but an application/engine modification that sends a correct enough heartbeat and answers with random responses to client queries ...

Every single status query made by a client , produces a different result.

I am in no way associated with those servers.  That is the reason I posted before so that my regulars would know which server is mine.

fromhell, I started Nemesis since summer of 2008.  I have never promoted my server on the OA forums.  I know that you know ips.  My account here is very recent.  I already have a good player base and thanks to those players, Nemesis is always alive.  The one who is creating those servers is someone that I have banned.  I have no need to promote Nemesis via fake servers.

The guy uses dynamic IP because one of the fake servers' address has changed but it's still in the ComCast range : 24.126.166.137

Code:
OrgName:    Comcast Cable Communications Holdings, Inc
OrgID:      CCCH-3
Address:    1800 Bishops Gate Blvd
City:       Mt Laurel
StateProv:  NJ
PostalCode: 08054
Country:    US

NetRange:   24.126.0.0 - 24.127.255.255
...

the fake servers are hurting the original servers player base if anything, people are getting frustrated being unable to join their regular server, and will go join another.

Alma ,

I truly appreciate that you go through the trouble (& $) to provide the communitiy with this server. I would like to say thank you. Things like this make me worry as much about human kind as it does the Open Arena Community! I hope this gets resolved very soon.

Peace,

ToasT

I think I've found the tool/PoC the guy used for causing this issue : if sago007 or any other dev is interested , I can send infos via PM.
