Is there a smaller upgrade file, or do I need to pull down the whole >300mb file? Great to see 0.81 out so quick - will be upgrading the altFIRE.com (http://www.altfire.com) server asap. Need to test if 64bit dedicated server can run on Debian without complaining about GLIBC versions and such.....we currently run 32bit for just that reason.

Dissapointed with the new hit sound, is there a way to get the previous sound (or even better the one previous to that)?

You should be able to simply rename the old demo files to get them to work. But it will look funny if the map has been changed.

We may help but :

- which O.S. are you running ?
- Can you paste here the log output when starting the game from a console ?
- Did you play 0.8.0 and did you experience any problem with it ?
- By slow, you mean FPS ? What is your framerate ? (bring down ingame console, type /cg_drawfps 1)

@TheRottenApple
- This is the right log, but it ends quite early, can you start some game and see if more valuable infos come ?
- For framerate (FPS), check top-right corner of your screen while playing.
- Did you change settings ? You may move your settings&pk3 directory (in document & settings\...) to make sure it doesn't put the mess on your fresh installation.

Also, there are 2 maps in the SVN Commits thread missing at page 2: boczeq's blitzkrieg (Attached) and another map of mine. (Direct link)
These will be released with the next version?

Ah, and for some reason I found that maps in this version runs much well than in 0.8.0. :/
At least, that's my case.

Okay It has nothing with framerate i think but look at this: GLW_StartOpenGL() - could not load OpenGL subsystem
Thats what appears when I click in legacy folder openarena-legay.exe

looks like your graphics card can't load open gl properly. try to install the newest drivers for your graphics card.

@TheRottenAngel,
Did you try standard binaries ?
Note: to use legacy binaries, you have to move them in openarena installation directory.

What is your graphic card ? Possible your driver is causing the problem.

You may also try to change game resolution, you could do that manually editing q3config.cfg. (search on this forum about resolution issues for more infos)

Fantastic job oa team :D :D I am very impressed with this release, love the sounds haha. This release definitely seems very finished, thanks cosmo for some fantastic maps :). The /oaN/ clan has moved over to oa081, so hope to see you guys there :D

It was definitely worth the wait :)

Just poppend into my mind: fromhell, what was the cunning (or whatever adjective you used) plan with OA 081, that was to unify all the players?
BTW I like that new hit-sound, really funny when you are frying someone with a lightning and all you hear is di-di-di-di-di-di-ding

I don't know how to explain, so I'll be direct: executable files whose use is to replace OA exe file in case that it doesn't work in Win9X. It doesn't has support for IPv6 unlike normal binaries.

(Someone correct me if I'm wrong)

If I'm not wrong :

Legacy binaries are builds which are based upon an older revision of ioquake3 engine.
Standard binaries are builds which are based upon a recent revision of ioquake3 engine.

Windows 9x compatible build is called "openarena-deprecated.exe". Only one is available, and it's based upon a recent revision of ioquake3 engine.

:D

Get it from the files page! (http://openarena.ws/files.html)

I see that FileFront has these files hosted on their site as well.  Here is the link if you want to update the downloads page to add their link:

wrong!
"depreciated" is the 9x compatible binary
Legacy is the binary based on older 0.7.1 which also works for 9x but it is NOT supported.

This game is AWESOME! I am so impressed!
The oa081.zip file from /svn installs straight into Ubuntu, no worries :-)
Considering the package available from the Ubuntu repository is still 0.7.7 it is great that the latest release installs without headaches.
Well done OA team!

I'm willing to bet that those other games use Direct3D rather than OpenGL.  Microsoft is notorious for crappy OpenGL drivers, and probably does this intentionally.  You're probably screwed until card manufacturers start releasing drivers for Windows 7.

openarena.exe doesn't work in vista x64 either, a bunch of keys don't work or are mapped incorrectly, so you have to use the deprecated client (which works fine). I'm going to guess ioquake3 people removed stuff they thought was useless, then didn't test on all os's. Hopefuly this gets fixed in next release (or atleast support for the deprecated client continues).

I'm having a similar problem on W7 RC. The game runs fine but in some maps the FPS goes critically down when some light or particular animation on the map occurs. It's a tedious problem and I need to fix it. I tryed with ALL details set to minimum (what a BLOB graphic LOL) and it still LAG !! So it's a driver problem ... someone got clues or ideas to test or fix it ? THANKS in advance.

There's a BIG BIG difference between opensource software version numbering and that of for-profit companies :) here's a summary, you can read more here: http://www.faqs.org/docs/artu/ch16s04.html
Quote
A major consequent difference between open-source practice and elsewhere is that a release level of 1.0 actually means the software is ready to use. In fact, a version number of 0.90 or above is a fairly reliable signal that the code is production-ready, but the developers are not quite ready to bet their reputations on it.

So, I guess next Openarena release could mean it's very close to something fromhell could bet his/her life on! :D

Maybe OT but I am not sure to have understood ( sarcasm ) why the commercial name is "Windows 7" but the OS string is "Windows 6.1" ( Windows Vista is Windows 6.0 *cough* *cough* )

EDIT : ( as I remember OS string of Windows 2000 is Windows 5.0 while Windows XP is Windows 5.1 )
