Are you actually gonna have all those maps run on the server? Cause if you do, that server will never be boring. Make sure your server is unpure too eh? :D I like my custom models as well.

the problem is that the server does not fill because people do not have the maps. to see if the maps obtain everybody to them!

Translate by google :D

Ya that's generally the problem with custom anything. A lot of people are too lazy to get new maps or whatever. Thems the brakes!

what's the license of those maps you added ?
If it's GPL compatible, there could be a maps-extra package for example...

They're not GPL compatible so I wouldn't try to include them with the OA packages, especially since most of them don't have their source shared and most of them contain non-Free textures.

(There's very few GPL'ed Q3 format .map files, just a couple maps from RPG and 3 maps from Vondur. OA just has one map from each.)

cannot at least be GPL, but respect the rights of the author including the text files of each map.

right, so we can play them, the license permits that.  however this project requires all maps/art/blah to be gpl 2.

cool map pack as a addition to the game, but its not a free software map pack.  most are not, doesn't mean they are not cost free.  just not freedom free.

This mappack has got to be some kind of official download so more people can use it, it really made this game for me.

I suppose it will not be "official", by reading the 2 previous posts before yours.
As long as the original authors do not relicense their artwork with GPL2, this would not respect the project openarena objectives.

AFAIAC, as I'm running servers dedicated to promotion of free software, those additionnal non-free maps cannot make their way on our server, for lack of appropriate licensing. (to make it clear : free is used as in freedom in the previous phrase, see http://www.gnu.org/  ).

But maybe you can help though, identifying those maps that you prefer, identify their author, then try to contact them and get them convinced to change their current licensing ? (GPL uses the copyright to ensure that their work is still attributed to them and that people can freely include their work in GNU/Linux distributions for example, to make them even more popular, what would be the problem ?)

That's a great idea!
However some time ago I tried to contact with UIE developer with little sucess. Couldnt find him.. his work was from 2002 and it turned out that he was no more using the email I found. Searching for him on quake3 forums didnt worked either.

But still it would worth the effort if we could find some person interested
I'm, however, not that confident with my english speeching hability

My post was cut! :S
EDIT: Oh.. sorry.. it was due to the use of a backward "?" symbol

I'm, however, not that confident with my english speeching hability. Could maybe some native english-speaker write a generic request to be sent to those mapers and/or modellers?
so that we (people with no talent) could try to atract the atention of some potential contribuitors

For some reason my download speed ALWAYS goes down to like 1.0 KB after downloading say 180 mb for like any file!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is sooooo annoying.

I am begging someone to make 2 rars or something with half the maps in each one!

Upload it to a free site that don't limit and download speed and stuff!

Please anyone!

Please...

- find a download manager that will resume a download
- start the download
- stop the download before your ISP limits the speed
- go drink some beer
- cook a pizza
- eat the pizza
- scratch your butt
- wait a few hours
- resume the download
- enjoy the non-free maps

There are plenty of maps that works in this pack, however, they DID NOT work well under 0.6 since there were TONS of missing textures. Now the maps works better, and there are a few handfuls of maps to use. I am currently working on a re-pack/extension of this map-pack with screenshots of every single map, but I only have so much time...I will let you know when I'm done.

Flipendo, this isn't exactly a new thread, but they should work in any of those versions (or, it's probably not an issue at this point -- we're already a good several revisions ahead of this:

(0.7.0 era, so you know :P)).

You can also download W1ZrD's 100 Map-pack (http://rainbow.furver.se/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=235).
