Hey, I'm fairly new to Open Arena and was wondering...

When I join a multi-player game on the internet, there only ever seems to be bots. I'm doing it properly by clicking to get the servers from the internet, not local or anything...
I really wanna play with some humans!

Is it me or is there endless amount of bots and no humans?

When I goto the menu I see single player and multiplayer. Now if I wanted to play bots I would click single player. There is a only humans option in the menu. i usually use this browser to find the servers http://clanarena.org/browse/getdata_71.php (im not familiar with all the servers but when I know a server has bots i avoid it). i see there is a cvar for humans only so i will see if i can use that and exclude the bot players from this list.

Is there any other way I can play humans on the game online then, or does it have to go through the OA Mulitplayer Menu?

oh sorry :D it helps if you are familiar with the bot names so you know which ones to avoid :D

In the multiplayer menu there is a humans only filter. You could try that. If you use the browser page  then if your not familiar with the bot names then they tell tale signs are the bots names will be all black and usually 4 or 6 of them on a server.  I guess I've just got used to them. When you are familiar with the servers then it's much easier. :D

Oh. I think I know one bots name - Jenna. But that might have been for another game. I'm not sure...

jenna model was for this game, they lost the skin for it, when tried to convert it to 0.8.0

when you click multiplayer and there are a few filters (show empty etc) above the server listing

There are only a couple of server with ppl at the moment.

Aah. I don't mind about getting beaten really. I'd rather get used to playing it before I do. ;)

Anyway. Those IP's, do I just put them in the Specify menu along with the port?

i just open the console and type /connect ip:port

Anyway, I found one server but the games messing up on me. It keeps freezing my mouse and keyboard and the game goes down to a small window in the right hand side of the window.
Has anyone ever got this?  I don't know what it is.

You don't need to know names of bots. When you look at scores, bots have smiley left of their name. That smiley depends on how strong bot is. Bot on nightmare will have red evil smiley, and on hurt me plenty will have green smiley (not 100% sure for this one).

Some guys use a server browser which displays players, some don't.
The smiley which is used to identify bots only appears ingame ...

Bots have 0 of ping, it's another way to identify them.

Ingame browser is usually enough, if you enable the filter "human only", it will identify bots for you, so that you don't have to mind about it.

I don't get it. I don't have the filter - humans only -, am I using an old version of OA? I got it with the Synaptics Package Manager via Ubuntu V 8.10 and Ubuntu aren't the ones who update the packages found there, you have to do it manually. So I might have...

It says 0.0.7 at the bottom of the screen when I start it though, if that helps.
