Title: How do I use a map
Post by: aethr on February 08, 2009, 11:56:10 AM
Hi all

got several textures, an .aas and a .bsp of a map. I wanna install and use the map, host a server.

How do I go about that? Tried putting it into ~/.openarena/maps, pk3'd or not, to no avail.

(the map is my old fave void4 from attic)

Thanks
Stefan

If you use pure server, you should pack the files in this way...

- maps/*.aas and *.bsp
- textures/<FolderTexturesAndFilesInsideOfThem>

...into a Zip, and then rename it into a pk3. You should set sv_allowdownload in 1 and hope the one who enters to your server has the pak or has cl_allowdownload 1.

ok tnx that worked. Created a void4 server and set sv_allowdownload but no one joined. I don't think the master server registered me. While the game was running, http://dpmaster.deathmask.net/?game=openarena didn't list my IP or mapname.

what could have gone wrong? i have a real ip address, oa 0.8.1

Also, no, I don't think I use "pure server", I just clicked "create game" in OA

If you see down to the right in the bot screen before launching the server, you'll see a bunch of options, one of these is Pure server, and is enabled by default.

The master server only shows dedicated servers.

EDIT: About void4. I one took it from the attic and fixed textures on it. It is here: http://openarena.ws/board/index.php?topic=1635.0
