Title: Can't change OA settings on Fedora - Freeze
Post by: dbX on September 02, 2009, 03:54:42 AM
Hello there. I am new to the forum, but have been playing OpenArena for over a year now. Mostly on win32. Now I'm frequently using Fedora 10. I've installed the ATI's Catalyst drivers version 9.3. OpenArena runs and I can play it. However when I change any settings or try vid_restart in the console, the game exits. Well, it does not actually exit, I guess it closes the window and should restart, but it does not do anything. It just stops and does nothing. It seems like it crashed, but it's presence in the system monitor reveals that it is still running. I am using OpenArena version 0.8.1.

I am able to change the resolution manually via the configuration file (using r_customwidth, r_customheight, ...). I don't really understand why this is happening.

Here is my crashlog.txt file:
Code:
ioq3+oa 1.35 linux-i386 Oct 20 2008
----- FS_Startup -----
Current search path:
/home/dejan/.openarena/baseoa
/home/dejan/Desktop/baseoa

Couldn't load default.cfg

I think I remember the Catalyst drivers actually doing that. It's fixed in later versions IIRC but your card might have its support killed in later dirvers, so do not upgrade the driver if you don't own a HD2000+ or better Radeon.
Sucks, I know. Right now you're using the best driver you've got.

Thanks for the help. I've got a Radeon X600. I figured out they'd kill support for it eventually. Sucks, but life goes on.
