Title: corrected oa fonts Post by: MilesTeg on January 06, 2007, 06:43:17 PM Hi
I just fixed some minor graphical issues in the oa menu. The fonts will now look better because I've adjusted their position. I used Bitstream Vera serif for the second font (see http://www.gnome.org/fonts/ for copyright - I'm not sure). The menu background looks about better now ( frame2_l + 1_r ). Title: Re: corrected oa fonts Post by: MilesTeg on July 14, 2007, 04:55:59 AM I corrected the Bitstream Vera serif a bit so it looks a bit better (although IMHO the font is definitely not the best choice for the game..)
Title: Re: corrected oa fonts Post by: MilesTeg on July 14, 2007, 05:14:00 AM hm... as we only need a font in capitals I could try to create a costum font for oa. 26 capital characters are not that much.
Any ideas on how it should look like? I thought about recreating something simple like this: http://www.dafont.com/28-days-later.font Title: Re: corrected oa fonts Post by: MilesTeg on July 14, 2007, 07:18:45 AM ok, here is another font I found:
the image I used for the pattern is http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Fire02.jpg (FDL) Font: Dark Garden http://darkgarden.sourceforge.net/ (GPL) Title: Re: corrected oa fonts Post by: dmn_clown on July 14, 2007, 11:04:15 AM ok, here is another font I found: the image I used for the pattern is http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Fire02.jpg (FDL) Font: Dark Garden http://darkgarden.sourceforge.net/ (GPL) The FDL with the invariant sections clause which that image has does not meet the DFSG (read it is non-free and would move openarena to non-free in Debian) :( Title: Re: corrected oa fonts Post by: MilesTeg on July 14, 2007, 11:20:50 AM sorry, just read "FDL" and thought it would be ok :(
anyway that's just WIP, so we can still use another source image Title: Re: corrected oa fonts Post by: dmn_clown on July 14, 2007, 11:36:02 AM It did look neat, though :)
Edit: Here (http://www.debian.org/vote/2006/vote_001) is a link to the general resolution that explains Debian's position on the GFDL. Title: Re: corrected oa fonts Post by: beast on August 02, 2007, 01:09:23 AM You might be able to find a usable font that meets the needs at http://www.openfontlibrary.org/ (http://www.openfontlibrary.org/)
Title: Re: corrected oa fonts Post by: dmn_clown on August 02, 2007, 04:49:36 AM Not if the license is non-free like most of the fonts in the OFL are.
Title: Re: corrected oa fonts Post by: beast on August 02, 2007, 10:24:25 AM True. That's why I said 'might be usable'. Any font would have to have a license that is acceptable. There are some PD fonts out there, but I don't know what the OA team's feelings are on that...
