Title: OpenArena at Clanbase
Post by: Morjo on February 01, 2010, 03:13:18 PM
I made a petition for OpenArena to get a 4vs4 CTF and 2vs2 CTF ladder at Clanbase:
http://clanbase.ggl.com/ladderpetition_vote.php?lpid=11721

These ladders should exist for regular play without being in competition with OA league or other closed cups. If you want to support this petition, please sign up at clanbase and vote for it at the link above :)

Good idea.
Perhaps OA community is too small for that, but let's give it a try.

I think we can get at about 10 clans for 4vs4 and many many teams for the 2vs2 ladder. Only problem I see are the votes ;)
So it'd be nice if all of you could inform your mates and call them for voting :)

well, I won't vote.
openarena is way too anti-competitive to be played in clanbase ihmo.

fromhell does not support competitive features in any way (see here for an example: http://openarena.ws/board/index.php?topic=3419.msg28701#msg28701 ) so i don't see the point in trying to get OA into clanbase.

maybe it can draw some attention into OA, but I think they will be disappointed when the expect a q3-clone wiht competitive features and get ... well ... OA :p

Yea that's pretty lame.

On the other hand now I'm convinced that OA got no chance anyway, even Warsow no longer has ladders there.

Clanbase probably only caters for restrictive, professionally made stuff anyway (i.e. trusted companies that just make their game and not have any community decisions on game design shifting everything between patches). This wouldn't just only count out OpenArena but a ton of other games as well. Besides, OA has no anti-cheat, so that's a big nono for them, and my position on pro gaming has no effect on this, even if I did that oa486 thing (the low detailed pro cheaty high performance fork that doesn't exist) it probably wouldn't make it either.

Oa brings no competitive features, no maps and a unbalanced gameplay.
But even if you fix these points there is an other one, clanbase or any other esport-thing will take oa. Oa looks just bad and it sounds bad.
Do you think you can make good promoting videos in oa? Something like this http://www.quakeunity.com/file=2948 (http://www.quakeunity.com/file=2948) (yeah i like this one :D )?
You can't do it! The announcer in q3 fits perfect(oa sounds a bit soft...), models, weapons... everything looks cool and fits to the gameplay.
Please dont try it! CB-team will just laught.

This is mostly valid, although at least QL and NoGhost mod have quite a lot of community suggestions implemented. And they would pay attention to competitive features(cpma-alike), content and gameplay but not to dumbed down gfx.
Also consider size of community.
