Title: Awards Post by: Gig on October 15, 2010, 11:45:51 AM A talk page in the Wiki made me think about the "Medals" and the "Awards" in general.
(DO NOT LINK) h t t p s : / / openarena . wikia . com/wiki/Talk:Manual/Medals I'd like to expand the "Manual/Medals" page there... but there are some things I would like to have confirm. - "Medals" and "Awards" are the same thing? - The medals that are shown in the "DO NOT LINK[/b]) h t t p s : / / openarena . wikia . com/wiki/Single_Player_Deathmatch]single player deathmatch (http://([b)" menu are those counted only in Single Player Deathmatch, or also in Skirmish or Multiplayer modes? - Are only the six "base" medals shown there or there is a way to have also the three awards from Team Arena (http://planetquake.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Guides.Detail&id=69&game=4) shown there? I suppose not... - The name of that award is "Capture" or "Captures"? - Is there a place where I can find the descriptions of the "powerups" screen under the "Statistics" section? - Can I talk about all these in the same Wiki page, or should I use more pages? Under which titles? Recap (please correct me if something is wrong): - Accuracy, Excellent, Frags, Gauntlet, Impressive, Perfect, Assist, Defence, Capture: shown on screen and pronunced by the announcer in any gametype you play, offline or online, in the moment when you get one. - Accuracy, Excellent, Frags, Gauntlet, Impressive, Perfect: count of how much of them gained in "Single Player Deathmatch" mode (not Skirmish/Multiplayer), shown in that screen only. - Accuracy, Perfect and Frags awards not shown in "Statistic" section, but total number of kills (more accurate than the Frags award) shown in "general" page there. - Gauntlet, Impressive, Excellent, Capture, Assist, Defend: count of how much of them gained against human player is "awards" page under the "Statistics" section. Title: Re: Awards Post by: sago007 on October 15, 2010, 12:55:32 PM - Is there a place where I can find the descriptions of the "powerups" screen under the "Statistics" section? Quad kills - Players killed while you had quad2 fast 4 U - Players killed while you held the speed-powerup They didn't see me - Kills while you where invisible Killing machine - Kills while you had at least 2 powerups Counter quad - Killed a player that had quad Not fast enough - Killed a player that had the speed powerup You cannot hide - Killed an invisible player Fall deep - Killed a player that had the flight powerup Counter battlesuit - Killed a player that had battlesuit Counter regen - Killed a player that had the regen powerup Counter multi - Killed a player that had more than one powerup. "Killing machine" and "Counter multi" stacks with the actual powerups. Title: Re: Awards Post by: sago007 on October 15, 2010, 12:57:41 PM - Are only the six "base" medals shown there or there is a way to have also the three awards from Team Arena (http://planetquake.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Guides.Detail&id=69&game=4) shown there? I suppose not... They are not from team arena but they are irrelevant for deathmatch and therefore also irrelevant for the single player campaign. Title: Re: Awards Post by: Gig on October 15, 2010, 01:35:30 PM You're right... at least "defense" and "capture" are in baseq3... It seems that this page (http://planetquake.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Guides.Detail&id=69&game=4) is not correct...
(But in a quick test, I've not been able to get an "assist" in Q3A...) With "Killing machine" and "Counter multi" stacks with the actual powerups do you mean this? That, for example, if you have one kill having both "quad damage" and "haste", you will see: - Quad kills: 1 - 2 fast 4 U: 1 - Killing machine 1 (all coming from the same frag) Right? Title: Re: Awards Post by: sago007 on October 15, 2010, 02:03:28 PM With "Killing machine" and "Counter multi" stacks with the actual powerups do you mean this? That, for example, if you have one kill having both "quad damage" and "haste", you will see: Yes- Quad kills: 1 - 2 fast 4 U: 1 - Killing machine 1 (all coming from the same frag) Right? Title: Re: Awards Post by: chaoticsoldier on October 15, 2010, 07:19:20 PM "Medals" and "Awards" are the same thing? Yes. The words "Medals" and "Awards" can be used interchangeably. The name of that award is "Capture" or "Captures"? I'd go with "Capture".eg: "To earn the Capture award" sounds better than "To earn the Captures" award. The medals that are shown in the "DO NOT LINK[/b]) h t t p s : / / openarena . wikia . com/wiki/Single_Player_Deathmatch]single player deathmatch (http://([b)" menu are those counted only in Single Player Deathmatch, or also in Skirmish or Multiplayer modes? Those medals are only counted in the tier matches. (Actually, skirmish medals are not recorded anywhere, and only multiplayer statistics against humans are recorded in the "Statistics" page)Accuracy, Perfect and Frags awards not shown in "Statistic" section, but total number of kills (more accurate than the Frags award) shown in "general" page there. The total number of kills is not more accurate than the frags award. They record different data. The "Frags" award only counts frags against the bots in tier matches. The "Total kills" in the statistics page only counts frags against human players in multiplayer games. The "Frags" award rounds down to the nearest hundred, but you can see the exact amount in your config. Search for g_spAwards in your q3config.cfg. Its value is something like this: Code: seta g_spAwards "\a4\987\a3\3\a2\198\a1\74" For reference: a5 = Perfect a4 = Frags a3 = Gauntlet a2 = Excellent a1 = Impressive a0 = Accuracy Can I talk about all these in the same Wiki page, or should I use more pages? Under which titles? You should probably first have a page that simply describes the medals in general. Then, wherever the medals are displayed in OA (in the single player menu, in the statistics section etc), you can mention them in the specific page that addresses that menu, and then refer the reader to the Medals page. For the descriptions, I would use one page in two sections. Something like this: Standard Medals Accuracy Excellent Gauntlet Impressive Frags Perfect (Describe them and mention that the first 4 occur in absolutely any game you play, while the last 2 are only relevant to the single player campaign. All of them are displayed as soon as you earn them (the last 2 are only shown at the conclusion of the match, because they can not be guaranteed until the match is over.) Capture the Flag Medals Assist Capture Defence (Describe them and mention that they are unique to this gametype. They are shown when you earn them.) Title: Re: Awards Post by: Gig on October 16, 2010, 05:07:21 AM (Describe them and mention that the first 4 occur in absolutely any game you play, while the last 2 are only relevant to the single player campaign. I suppose that also the "accuracy" award is calculated only at the end of the match... right?Title: Re: Awards Post by: chaoticsoldier on October 16, 2010, 05:13:24 AM Yes, that's right. (Sorry, my mistake).
That award is also not used in multiplayer. Title: Re: Awards Post by: Gig on October 16, 2010, 10:01:47 AM Ok guys.
I updated the DO NOT LINK[/b]) h t t p s : / / openarena . wikia . com/wiki/Manual/Medals]Manual/Medals (http://([b) page and created the DO NOT LINK[/b]) h t t p s : / / openarena . wikia . com/wiki/Manual/Statistics]Manual/Statistics (http://([b) page. Please take a look to them, maybe I forget something. And how's a way to describe the "Assist" medal? PS: It would be nice to add the description of the "powerups awards" in the "statistics" screen (a text appearing while you mouseover a line should be good), what do you think about it? Title: Re: Awards Post by: Graion Dilach on October 16, 2010, 11:07:27 AM IIRC Assist is given if you get back your flag 15 seconds before an actual point taken in CTF.
AFAIK this is included also in Quake 3, Gig. This is a bit hard to test, yeah. And it has its own bugs... once I could assist myself... :D Title: Re: Awards Post by: sago007 on October 16, 2010, 02:08:20 PM PS: It would be nice to add the description of the "powerups awards" in the "statistics" screen (a text appearing while you mouseover a line should be good), what do you think about it? Yes that would be nice. And it has its own bugs... once I could assist myself... :D ioquake3 removed this... however it was an easy way to get the assist medal. There by changing the definition of assist was "Return the enemy flag <3 seconds before a capture" to "Return the enemy flag <3 seconds before a teammate makes a capture". It was not logical that you could assist yourself. Title: Re: Awards Post by: RMF on October 16, 2010, 04:31:00 PM And it has its own bugs... once I could assist myself... :D Not just once .. :PTitle: Re: Awards Post by: Gig on October 17, 2010, 10:45:48 AM 3 Seconds (as Sago said)?
15 seconds (as Graion said)? This page (http://planetquake.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Guides.Detail&id=69&game=4) (unofficial and about Team Arena) says: Quote You'll get an assist when you return the flag in a certain time frame or when you frag the carrier of your frag. Sometimes I killed the carrier of my flag, but it wasn't enough to get the award. The Quake 3 Readme (http://www.bagpipes.net/quake/Readme.htm), instead, did not mention the "assist" word, but reported this table for the individual scoring during CTF matches. Quote Capture - 5 Points awarded to each player on the team. Are they correct also in OpenArena? I suppose we should write them in our Manual, somewhere...Frag (Kill) - 1 Point Killing Flag Carrier - 3 Points (1 point for the Frag, and 2 points because he had the flag). Returning Flag to Base - 1 Point Defending the Flag Carrier - 2 Points (1 point for the Frag, and 1 point for defending the flag carrier). --You are awarded these points if you Frag an opposing player who is in the immediate vicinity, AND has inflicted damage to the flag carrier within approximately the last 5 seconds. In this page (http://rtdquake.com/backuppics/1_25%20readme.htm), instead, it seems there is the readme file for Q3 pointrelease 1.25... it says that Quote Assist But that page is quite strange, take a look to the strange values in the "ACTION POINTS EXPLANATION" table there...This medal is awarded whenever the player actively participates in a capture being made. Active participation includes carrying the flag part of the way, or close proximity defense (fragging attackers) of the flag carrier close to the time the capture is made. Guys, I really don't know what to think... (and, obviously, what to write)... Title: Re: Awards Post by: Graion Dilach on October 17, 2010, 11:19:39 AM You get assist award only when you return the flag. I don't know the exact timeframe, I'm just guessing, so I think Sago is correct.
Title: Re: Awards Post by: sago007 on October 17, 2010, 04:43:21 PM 3 Seconds (as Sago said)? Source code says 10 seconds... I always felt it was shorter.15 seconds (as Graion said)? Thought I once read about it, something like cg_drawawards, but can't find it anymore.
Title: Re: Awards Post by: chaoticsoldier on October 20, 2010, 02:23:44 AM Try /cg_drawRewards 0
Title: Re: Awards Post by: Gig on October 20, 2010, 10:12:57 AM It seems to be. I did a quick try, and it seems that the icon over the head of the player is not shown, and if you are that player, you will not see the icon on the screen (but you sill hear the announcer). Right?
Title: Re: Awards Post by: RMF on October 20, 2010, 01:58:22 PM Try /cg_drawRewards 0 curse close lol. Edit: that wasn't a curse.. -.- /edit.For me it's mostly for the icon above other players' heads, I'm mostly playing CTF and when I don't see the teammate icon but another one I don't know if it's a teammate or not (and I don't like forceplayermodel). Makes me doubt a bit, respond slower, and a couple times getting killed cause of that (or I pushed a teammate the wrong way a few times too). Title: Re: Awards Post by: Gig on October 21, 2010, 03:16:55 PM It seems a nice idea, RMF. I'm going to update the wiki pages.
In the meanwhile, I'd like to ask another thing: what's about the "Killing spree"? It seems it is not exacly a "medal" right now (it does not has got an icon, right?), but for some aspects it is similar to them, right? Will it become a "real" medal in the next versions, or it will remain like it is now? Should we talk about it in the "medals" page, even if it not exactly a medal? Well, let's see what we may write about it... Quote The "Killing spree" is another simple award, even if not exacly a "medal". It does not have an icon, and it is not shown or stored after the match. When an "X" player scores 5 frags without dying even once, a text will appar in the console, informing all the players that "X is on a killing spree with 5 frags". If he scores 5 more frags without dying even once, the console will inform that "X is on a killing spree with 10 frags", and so on. Did I explained correctly?Title: Re: Awards Post by: Cacatoes on October 21, 2010, 03:24:11 PM You can also add Killing Spree messages can be customized, check OAX's wiki pages for more infos.
I doubt it will become a "real medal" in coming versions, because most developpers are not as punctilious as you are ... it has been designed as an optionnal addition from the start. Title: Re: Awards Post by: Gig on October 21, 2010, 03:54:11 PM "Killing spree" customizable? I will have to check... but tomorrow...
Everyday there is something more to put in the wiki, I will never end! :RIP: :D For the meanwhile, I wrote DO NOT LINK[/b]) h t t p s : / / openarena . wikia . com/index.php?title=Manual%2FGraphic_options&diff=7518&oldid=7161]this (http://([b) and DO NOT LINK[/b]) h t t p s : / / openarena . wikia . com/index.php?title=Manual%2FMedals&diff=7522&oldid=7480]this (http://([b) about the cg_drawrewards option. Title: Re: Awards Post by: Udi on October 22, 2010, 12:29:40 AM Killing spree is coming straight from Unreal, it wasn't a medal back then. Nowadays some shooters give you points for "killing streaks", so maybe a point system would be more flexible than medals.
Title: Killing Sprees and MultiKills Post by: Gig on October 22, 2010, 11:30:56 AM Killing Sprees and MultiKills
Okay, I found something starting from here (http://code.google.com/p/oax/w/list)... I didn'k know that the OAX site contained such "help" pages... Anyway, the pages taking about "Skilling Sprees", "Death Sprees" and "Multikills" seem to be: http://code.google.com/p/oax/wiki/Enabling_Sprees_MultiKills http://code.google.com/p/oax/wiki/Configuring_Sprees http://code.google.com/p/oax/wiki/Sprees_and_Multikills http://code.google.com/p/oax/wiki/MultKill_Config But there are some things I don't understand. 1) What's the difference between "Killing Sprees" and "Death Sprees"? 2) Why does the killing spree configuration file (specified in the "g_sprees" variable, default "sprees.dat") has to be placed into the "appdata" folder (under Windows, %APPDATA%\OpenArena\baseoa) only? Usually, you can select to place your custom files (I'm talking about .pk3 or .cfg files, I don't know about .dat files!) there or also under the installation folder\baseoa, as you wish. Why does this is different? 3) I created a test "sprees.dat" file. When I reach a spree with the "printpos = 2" option, the message correctly appears in console. But the sprees with the "printpos = 1" option do not work correcly, imho: the message is printed on the main screen only when another player gets it, not if I earn it (note: with printpos 1, it is not printed in console at all, but only on the main screen). 4) With "printpos = 1", the fonts are huge... I don't know exacly how many of them are shown, but it seems about 40 characters (or maybe 43 at max)... The example on the OAX page says "[n] is on a killing spree!!! ( [k] kills!!! )": use a short player name like "player" and the message will result "Player is on a killing spree!!! ( 5 kills!!! )": it is 47 characters long, and the text goes out of the screen. Not very nice. I suppose that smaller fonts should be used there. The help page says that the killing spree message should work correctly up to 150 output characters, but probably it is true only for the messages printed in the console... 5) The "MultiKill" configuration help page is not completed: there is no indication of how to configure them!!! It seems that one should place them in the same "sprees.dat" file (indicating a different audio file depending from how many frags the player gets in few seconds?), but there is not indication of how they should be written. Someone can help me? Title: Re: Awards Post by: Neon_Knight on October 22, 2010, 11:42:27 AM AFAIK:
Killing Sprees = amount of times you frag without being fragged. Death Sprees = amount of times you are fragged without fragging. Title: Re: Killing Sprees and MultiKills Post by: sago007 on October 30, 2010, 05:38:55 AM 1) What's the difference between "Killing Sprees" and "Death Sprees"? 1. As Neon_Knight said. I outcommented deathsprees in the default sprees.dat because I did not find it to encourage good behavior.2) Why does the killing spree configuration file (specified in the "g_sprees" variable, default "sprees.dat") has to be placed into the "appdata" folder (under Windows, %APPDATA%\OpenArena\baseoa) only? Usually, you can select to place your custom files (I'm talking about .pk3 or .cfg files, I don't know about .dat files!) there or also under the installation folder\baseoa, as you wish. It works as all other files... although to prevent misunderstanding configuration files should be placed in the homepath or people might not understand why they get overruled. This is not a problem for sprees.dat but it is for the admin-config file. 3-4. The center print messege is broken. It will always be overwritten by the "fragged %s" message for the player. 5. Based on the content of g_killspree.c I guess it is something like this in the sprees.dat-file: Quote [mkill] kills = 1 message = Some message sound = sound/misc/mysound.wav SharpestTool might have some additional documentation somewhere on the forum. Title: Re: Awards Post by: Gig on October 31, 2010, 03:23:26 AM 1) Right thing, IMHO.
2) Now I understand why it doesn't work if I place a sprees.dat inside the installation/baseoa folder: it's because there is a default sprees.dat packaged into pak6-patch085.pk3 (before I thought that the default message was hard-coded in the source code, but it's not the case). This suggests that, if there are two files with the same name in the same folder, but one inside a pk3 and the other outside it, the one in the pk3 "wins"... 3-4) Do you think you will fix it? Showing it on a different line, or after the "frag" message disappeared... Anyway, it should use smaller fonts: 40-43 characters are few for this kind of message! 5) I will try it... If it works, I suggest, for the next release, to put a multikill example (commented out!) in the default sprees.dat. And maybe (just an idea) for the next major release (the first that will not be applicable as a patch, but will need a clean install), to place that file outside the pk3, to let people find it and modify it. Title: Re: Awards Post by: sago007 on October 31, 2010, 04:16:34 AM This suggests that, if there are two files with the same name in the same folder, but one inside a pk3 and the other outside it, the one in the pk3 "wins"... Appears so. I always thought the file outside the pk3 file won if it was a user editable file like dat,cfg or txt file.Title: Re: Awards Post by: Gig on November 13, 2010, 08:26:48 AM Sago, I placed a customized "sprees.dat" in my &appdata%\openarena\baseoa folder, with killing spree, death spree and multikills.
It seems to work correcly when I open a map with "devmap", but not when I launch it with the standard "map" command: in this case, the default "sprees.dat" (from the 085 patch) is used instead of mine, and after I set g_altexcellent 1, it is automatically reset to its deault when the map is restarted. UPDATE: Uhm.. maybe this has already been fixed in OAX B47? PS: I noticed that g_spreediv and g_altexcellent are reset to their default after you close the game.. is this intentional?
