Title: Aftershock mod Post by: schlorri on January 03, 2011, 10:44:09 AM Hello openarena community,
some players might have heard about a community made mod for openarena called aftershock, some others might have played on one of the aftershock servers (http://oaunofficial.exulo.de/server.php). In this topic i want to introduce aftershock to the players, that don't know aftershock or don't know what aftershock is. Aftershock seeks to improve the gameplay of openarena and insert various new features, BUT it is not the pro version of openarena like some ppl say. We even plan to make this game more newbie-friendly, so new players and advanced players can have fun in this game. There are too many changes and new features to write them down here, some of them are brightskins/pm-skins(you can color them per console), new rewards and statistic files. For more information just look in the changelog (http://oaunofficial.exulo.de/changelog.php) and check out the match statistics (http://oaunofficial.exulo.de/matches.php) and rankings (http://oaunofficial.exulo.de/ca.php). Pictures say a 1000 words (http://www.abload.de/thumb/shot0023eq2x.jpg) (http://www.abload.de/image.php?img=shot0023eq2x.jpg)(http://h-4.abload.de/thumb/shot00137o6p.jpg) (http://h-4.abload.de/img/shot00137o6p.jpg)(http://www.abload.de/thumb/shot0001j6jz.jpg) (http://www.abload.de/image.php?img=shot0001j6jz.jpg)(http://www.abload.de/thumb/shot00211mda.jpg) (http://www.abload.de/image.php?img=shot00211mda.jpg)(http://www.abload.de/thumb/stats8q63.jpeg) (http://www.abload.de/image.php?img=stats8q63.jpeg) To test aftershock you can download it here (http://code.google.com/p/oaunofficial/downloads/list) or better join one of our servers. For more information visit our page (http://oaunofficial.exulo.de/index.php) and/or join #aftershock in quakenet. (http://webchat.quakenet.org/?channels=aftershock&uio=d4) If you want to host a ranked aftershock server or you have problems playing aftershock, just ask in the aftershock channel. Join our growing playerbase :)! Hope to see you in the aftershock arena a_clown Title: Re: Aftershock mod Post by: Gig on January 03, 2011, 11:04:09 AM Hi.
If you want, you can create a page about it in our wiki site. It should be placed here: (DO NOT LINK) h t t p s : / / openarena . wikia . com/index.php?title=Mods/AfterShock You can see the pages about other mods under the following urls: (DO NOT LINK) h t t p s : / / openarena . wikia . com/wiki/Mods (DO NOT LINK) h t t p s : / / openarena . wikia . com/wiki/ModCompat The first one is about mods expressly created for OpenArena (like yours), and the second one if about mods for Q3A. I linked them so you can take a look to the style of these pages, if you want to try to create something similar. If you prefer, you may simply write in plain text (possibly do not simply copy-paste it), and I could try to format it later. If you want to add screenshots, too, you have to register to Wikia. If you prefer, I could take a couple of screens by myself after you create the page, no problem.... but if you want to do it yourself, DO NOT LINK[/b]) h t t p s : / / openarena . wikia . com/wiki/File:Cg_shadows.jpg]here (http://([b) you can find an example of "details" and "licensing" for a GPLv2 screenshot (I'm sorry I have no idea of how to put the "source" Photoshop version on Wikia -I think Wikia accepts only few file extensions-, to respect the GPLv2 license at 100%) and DO NOT LINK[/b]) h t t p s : / / openarena . wikia . com/wiki/File:Insta-rj_01.jpg]here (http://([b) for a screenshot under "fair use" (that includes GPLv2 stuff from OpenArena, but also some "closed source" stuff from a Q3A mod). If you have any questions, you can ask to me. Title: Re: Aftershock mod Post by: Proti on January 03, 2011, 11:21:05 AM Really great mod !

Title: Re: Aftershock mod Post by: Cacatoes on January 03, 2011, 01:17:32 PM Yop,
Lots of small things added, and your server offers a good playing experience. In some way, there are no major things added, which also means OA doesn't lack so much, and aftershock doesn't have to take a great turn from OA, which is somehow reassuring. Keep it up active and good luck with it, I'll try to continue to step by it from time to time ;) Title: Re: Aftershock mod Post by: Gerbil on January 04, 2011, 05:53:38 PM fantastic mod! :)

Title: Re: Aftershock mod Post by: **HD on February 16, 2011, 05:54:35 AM Thank you for your detailed informations about how to licence a screenshot to upload it into the wiki, Gig ! I added some screenshots to AfterShock's wiki, so if someone is interested in writing an article about it, he / she can take those screenshots.

... Good luck with the Mod, nice to see a steady progression - http://code.google.com/p/oaunofficial/downloads/list One thing... Since its creation, and unlike most Mods, AfterShock sets the game variable to aftershock but the gamename variable to baseoa. This results in all Master Servers / Spiders identifying the servers as being baseoa. It would be good for players to know that OA has thriving Mods by correcting this and having AfterShock listed in the Mod section of Stat Servers like the one at Beer Gardens: (http://oa.goquake.com/servers/beer_garden.png) Title: Re: Aftershock mod Post by: davidd on March 10, 2012, 09:50:20 AM Hi all,
First of all i really enjoy Aftershock. schlorri asked me a long time ago to send some feature suggestions i had. it had become quite a list, i wrote them down on paper while spectating today. i will try to sort them a bit first off, things that possibly change the gameplay
but as i really like to spectate, (because i am not as good as some other players) a lot of changes for spectating
misc stuff and some old bugs that i didnt really check if they were still in there.
thanks for the great game and i hope you can agree with many of my requests. btw the website seems to be down at this moment. Is that on purpose? Grtz Davidd. Title: Re: Aftershock mod Post by: PopeJo on March 10, 2012, 11:22:55 AM btw the website seems to be down at this moment. Is that on purpose? maybe you are using an old url? This one seems up: http://www.aftershock-fps.com this one is gone: http : // oaunofficial.exulo. de / Title: Re: Aftershock mod Post by: davidd on March 11, 2012, 06:12:16 AM yes i found it ,
the thing is that aftershock-fps.de redirects to the old website. so maybe someone should update that redirect. Title: Re: Aftershock mod Post by: RMF on March 13, 2012, 12:31:49 PM Works here, with and without www. Perhaps your browser cached the redirect? (= try another browser.)
Title: Re: Aftershock mod Post by: grey matter on March 13, 2012, 12:58:21 PM The .de domain redirects to http://oaunofficial.exulo.de.
Tested from 3 different networks, so I highly doubt that there are caching problems :) Title: Re: Aftershock mod Post by: RMF on March 13, 2012, 03:34:15 PM Well it might be his browser cache, not a global one.
If the redirect was accidentally done by a 301 Moved Permanently, it might be his browser saved that. A 302 Found header would only temporarily redirect and not be cached. It would be quite weird if this was the case, but it just might be. Wouldn't be the first time a very weird problem got solved by clearing cache. |
