Hello openarena community,

some players might have heard about a community made mod for openarena called aftershock, some others might have played on one of the aftershock servers (http://oaunofficial.exulo.de/server.php).
In this topic i want to introduce aftershock to the players, that don't know aftershock or don't know what aftershock is.
Aftershock seeks to improve the gameplay of openarena and insert various new features, BUT it is not the pro version of openarena like some ppl say.
We even plan to make this game more newbie-friendly, so new players and advanced players can have fun in this game.

There are too many changes and new features to write them down here, some of them are brightskins/pm-skins(you can color them per console), new rewards and statistic files.

The first one is about mods expressly created for OpenArena (like yours), and the second one if about mods for Q3A. I linked them so you can take a look to the style of these pages, if you want to try to create something similar. If you prefer, you may simply write in plain text (possibly do not simply copy-paste it), and I could try to format it later.

If you want to add screenshots, too, you have to register to Wikia. Yop,

Lots of small things added, and your server offers a good playing experience.
In some way, there are no major things added, which also means OA doesn't lack so much, and aftershock doesn't have to take a great turn from OA, which is somehow reassuring.
Keep it up active and good luck with it, I'll try to continue to step by it from time to time ;)

Thank you for your detailed informations about how to licence a screenshot to upload it into the wiki, Gig ! I added some screenshots to AfterShock's wiki, so if someone is interested in writing an article about it, he / she can take those screenshots.

One thing... Since its creation, and unlike most Mods, AfterShock sets the game variable to aftershock but the gamename variable to baseoa.  This results in all Master Servers / Spiders identifying the servers as being baseoa.

It would be good for players to know that OA has thriving Mods by correcting this and having AfterShock listed in the Mod section of Stat Servers like the one at Beer Gardens:

Hi all,

First of all i really enjoy Aftershock.
schlorri asked me a long time ago to send some feature suggestions i had.

it had become quite a list, i wrote them down on paper while spectating today.

i will try to sort them a bit

first off, things that possibly change the gameplay

  • 1. currently your teammates show up as yellow triangles when behind a wall. Could there be some part of the triangle that shows amount of health (like the crosshair color)
  • 2. make teleporters teleport rockets and grenades. but when a rocket or grenade would telefrag a player, give him 100damage instead.
  • 3. railjumps in instagib modus when you turn g_instagib to 2 or 3. (adding rocketjump physics to railgun)
  • 4. make a g_rocketselfdamage or something to allow damageless rocketjumps in deathmatch.
  • 5. add distance to the triangles mentioned in 1.
  • 6. add some radar showing teammates

but as i really like to spectate, (because i am not as good as some other players) a lot of changes for spectating

  • 7. Add some spectator stats to the stats site. like, time that people watched player X in chasemodus
  • 8. make zoom and jump go the previous player you spectated.
  • 9. in chase mode you dont get button hints (like press ESC to join etc)
  • 10. show the ping of the spectators next to their names in +showscores
  • 11. make +zoom part of the wire protocol so spectators get zoomed like the person they spectate (possibly send cg_fov in wire protocol?)
  • 12. after a match is started, you lose chase modus and go back to freeflight. having to look up the person you were watching again.
  • 13. same as 12 but for mapchange.

misc stuff and some old bugs that i didnt really check if they were still in there.

  • 14. the hitsound is now based on the amount of damage of the shot. Make that the amount of damage done in last 3 seconds.
  • 15. add a console command that reveals the contents of nextmap on the server.
  • 16. when changing game_type dont clear out nextmap. It kills mapcycles, making it impossible to have different gametypes in one mapcycle.
  • 17. add an award for shooting 2 consequtive rockets straight at a player (100 damage "ate %s's rocket") like impressive award for railgun
  • 18. same as 17 but for grenades

thanks for the great game and i hope you can agree with many of my requests.

btw the website seems to be down at this moment. Is that on purpose?

yes i found it ,

the thing is that aftershock-fps.de redirects to the old website.

so maybe someone should update that redirect.

Works here, with and without www. Perhaps your browser cached the redirect? (= try another browser.)

The .de domain redirects to http://oaunofficial.exulo.de.
Tested from 3 different networks, so I highly doubt that there are caching problems :)

Well it might be his browser cache, not a global one.
If the redirect was accidentally done by a 301 Moved Permanently, it might be his browser saved that. A 302 Found header would only temporarily redirect and not be cached.

It would be quite weird if this was the case, but it just might be. Wouldn't be the first time a very weird problem got solved by clearing cache.
