Title: OpenArena Community Mappack Vol. 1
Post by: Neon_Knight on January 15, 2014, 06:34:35 pm
The OACMP team is proud to present...

OpenArena Community Mappack Vol. 1!

The OpenArena Community Mappack (also called OACMP) is a mappack containing GPL'd maps made by the community itself. The idea is to give GPL servers something else to play aside of the official maps and the already GPLv2'd maps.

This idea started in the official OA forum. Anyone, as long as they respect the rules of the mappack, could be part of the DevTeam for this pack. They don't even need to be mappers, even if they can't produce assets, this doesn't mean that they can't test the maps themselves and give feedback. The style of the map was up to the mappers themselves, with the only important restriction being that everything must be GPLv2'd, like OA itself.

Over the course of a year and a month and a half, the Team worked very hard in this pack. The result is 13 high-quality maps, 10 FFA-oriented and 3 CTF-oriented, from 4 authors and a plethora of collaborators.

Bundled with the pack is a mod which adds the OACMP FFA maps to the Single Player Deathmatch/Unlock Tiers mode. It (like the pack itself) requires OpenArena 0.8.8 in order to work.

The installation is as simple as "unzip everything in your OpenArena directory with routes enabled".

With all of this said, we hope you enjoy the pack as much as we enjoyed making it!

Done, though it looks like it automatically truncated the images....

Fixed, I guess. I've moved the maplist and credits to a post below, and used SMF's own bbcode to resize the main image.

Already done. He said he should do tomorrow, using baseoa this time. ;)

Another mirror (http://sourceforge.net/projects/libsdl-android/files/OpenArena/0.8.8/oacmp-volume1-v2.zip/download)
I'll update the server today. Which mode should I choose for team maps? I would prefer DD, but CTF seems to be more well known. Also, several maps will be duplicated in both FFA and DD modes, but I don't think that's an issue.
BTW I've found a bug in our dedicated server code - when user successfully votes for map, the map rotation script becomes disabled, and the map stays selected until the server is restarted. I'm too lazy to fix it right now, but we should probably tell Sago007.

Congratulations to all the developers / artists who created this pack and its maps!

I don't write in this forum very often but I wanted to thank you for your efforts. :)

I should have asked this earlier, but I noticed that the pack uses xcsv textures. Aren't they CC BY-NC-ND 3.0? Souldn't they be removed or replaced due to making the package nonfree?

Title: Re: OpenArena Community Mappack Vol. 1
Post by: Neon_Knight on January 19, 2014, 11:42:48 am
You may be talking about the xcf textures. The pack itself doesn't use them.
The xcf textures are GIMP files, and are in the pack for GPL compliance reasons.

EDIT: Wait a minute. Give proof of that.

the textures are in textures/xcsv/ in the pk3.

And the offender filename/texture is?

(I'm starting to get mad...)

Title: Re: OpenArena Community Mappack Vol. 1
Post by: Danfun64 on January 19, 2014, 01:03:11 pm
the entire xcsv folder

edit: to clarify...

textures/xcsv/dirty_pewter_big.jpg
textures/xcsv/metalfloor_wall_14.jpg
textures/xcsv/metalfloor_wall_14bglow2.jpg
textures/xcsv/metalfloor_wall_14bglow2r.jpg
textures/xcsv/metfloor_block_3.jpg
textures/xcsv/metfloor_block_3_4.jpg

During the beta stage, I didn't say anything at first since you mentioned removing non-free textures. Guess you weren't referring to these

Title: Re: OpenArena Community Mappack Vol. 1
Post by: Neon_Knight on January 19, 2014, 01:24:18 pm
Oh, crap... this is why I am extremely reluctant to do GPL audition and wanted someone else to do it.
Danfun64, THAT KIND OF THINGS SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPORTED EARLIER.

Pulling the pack out. From anywhere I can.

Title: Re: OpenArena Community Mappack Vol. 1
Post by: pelya on January 19, 2014, 01:55:46 pm
Isn't it a bit too late for that? I can disable my server permanently if you wish.
The pack still can be redistributed and used (CC BY-NC-ND license allows free distribution, it does not allow modification and commercial use), and we can re-release all maps in OACMP volume 2, with different textures (although the maps will look very differently I assume).
To clarify: maps that are using non-GPL textures are oacmpctf1 and oacmpdm5.

Title: Re: OpenArena Community Mappack Vol. 1
Post by: Neon_Knight on January 19, 2014, 02:03:35 pm
(It's 0.5.1 all over again... -.-)

I'm considering two options: remove oacmpctf1 and oacmpdm5 or retexturize them. Both cases would save the rest of the package.

Post by: Neon_Knight on January 19, 2014, 03:19:42 pm
What really irkes me the most about this whole situation is that we had a WHOLE GODDAMN YEAR developing the pack, and THAT could have been reported BEFORE the release of the pack. But no, it was reported AFTER it was released.

And then we, the OA/OACMP devs are the bad guys... ::)

Title: Re: OpenArena Community Mappack Vol. 1
Post by: pelya on January 19, 2014, 04:36:42 pm
No one yet said that we are the bad guys (unless Fromhell PM-ed you a seppuku knife). Furthermore, I think GPL compliance is really important only for us - players and server admins generally do not care about license, as long as it's free to download.

Post by: Neon_Knight on January 19, 2014, 04:45:21 pm
I wasn't talking specifically about the OACMP team, but there were people (nowadays in chatrooms, previously in other forums) who said that the OA devs give a big FY to the community (http://openarena.ws/board/index.php?topic=4711.msg48810#msg48810).

Title: Re: OpenArena Community Mappack Vol. 1

Jan's CTF map is saved. There were few textures to replace.
Now all that remains is Jan's DM map, which is by far the worse in the textures missing department.

Post by: Neon_Knight on January 19, 2014, 05:52:59 pm
WAIT A MINUTE ONCE AGAIN!!!
I've just seen the pic of oajgdm1. Those textures are ACTUALLY OA modified textures! Perhaps the name was misguiding? I have to check that HD texture pack to see if there's a similitude. If there isn't, then nothing is bad with the pack!

Title: NO PROBLEM WITH OACMP! YAY!
Post by: Neon_Knight on January 19, 2014, 06:22:22 pm
Oh! Oh!
I have good news for everyone... THERE ARE NO PROBLEMS!
Here's the comparison table, texture by texture =)

In order, also there are two textures which weren't present in the original xcsv pack.

So, basically, there's no problem with the pack at all! It was all a false alarm!

(Though for the next pack, we should avoid known names at all costs...)

EDIT: Wait a minute once again. -.- there IS something wrong, one of those textures slipped the radar and somehow ended up in the pack. Well, the good thing is that a quick replacement can be done and the map can still be included.
