Title: 0.7.0 released!
Post by: fromhell on July 06, 2007, 09:29:20 AM
It's been 8 months since the last release and we've done a lot of stuff for this release, so much it's suddenly 250mb which was way past our 177mb goal. This is our biggest release ever, to state the obvious :)  Anyway

Significant Changes:
- 10 new player models
- 26 new maps
- ce1m7, oa_bases3, dm4ish, dm6ish, and cbctf1 also had several changes
- Bloom (activated by r_bloom 1)
- New announcer voice
- New gibs
- Quake's DM maps converted, from dm1 to dm7
- uses ioquake3 revision 1107
- more menu graphics, i.e. the player model button is actually there!
- lots of other stuff like redone sounds and textures

Sweet, thanks guys I allready checked out the game on both mac and windows (using the old mac OA exe) and have to say that this is a great job. It is worlds better then the original Open Arena. If I lived near the developers, I would buy all you guys a round of beer at the local bar.

OK:the mac version is ready. :-)

I'm uploading a full release, complete of "traditional" drag'n'drop installation, to a server right now, it will take some time...
For the ones who can't wait there is an engine-only package here (http://www.jackoverfull.com/giochi/openarena/OAMac0.7.0j1-engine_only.zip): download it, then copy "OpenArena" in the same folder of "baseoa". You can get "baseoa" from the main page of this site: it is inside the official release...

Good fragging.

done the linux ppc one too.
It is available here (http://www.jackoverfull.com/giochi/openarena/OALinuxPPC0.7.0j1.tar.gz).

Installation instructions are inside.

And now... i need to sleep. X_x

OK, we found some problems in the mac intel version, i did an updated version that solves them: jazzmobile.it/jackoverfull/games/openarena/OpenArena0.7.0j2.dmg

if you already downloaded the old version you don't need to download all the the 263 mb, you can get only the engine (only 13.6 mb...) here (http://www.jackoverfull.com/giochi/openarena/OAMac0.7.0j2-engine_only.zip) and follow this procedure:

1) download and unpack it
2) hold the ctrl key, then click on the old OpenArena icon
3) from the contextual menu you just opened chose "show package contents"
4) in the windows that opens navigate tu Contents/MacOS
5) do the same thing with the new version
6) replace the baseoa folder of the new engine only release (wich is empty...) with the one from the old full release.
7) double-click on OpenArena's icon to enjoy the game... ;-)

If you have a ppc you can use the old version: it should work.

If you already downloaded the windows/linux version you can download the engine only (http://www.jackoverfull.com/giochi/openarena/OAMac0.7.0j2-engine_only.zip) os x release and move the OpenArena icon to the same folder of baseoa.

good.
you probably forgot to add the jazzmobile one on the homepage, since now there is "Mac OS X mirrors: modDB - 3DDownloads -".
Also, the files section does have neither the osx version neither the sources.

I am missing something to build from the source ?

you need the ./ui directory and its contents (available in the source directory of the svn).

Title: Re: 0.7.0 released!

Shouldn't they be included on the source tarball ?

Thank you anyway.

All the females sounds so manly.

Well that's because pixie didn't do any new voices for angelyss, ayumi or arachna as she was taking some vacation break (at the most unfortunate time i know) so I had to take the existing major and kyonshi voices and change their pitches a little. I've also made a vow to not go to OFTC anymore so yeah that broke up communications a bit :(

would still like some new kyonshi voices for extra authenticity *hint hint*

could use a better taunt phrase too

It would be fun to try, but...
Meh, my English sux. It would sound silly to have one who cannot speak English right to do the voice. I'm thinking about the taut phrase.

I'm downloading it right now, but I think we need a md5sum file to check the size of the file since
it's bigger and the download have more chance to be corrupted.

No matter what I try, I cannot get 0.7.0 to run on my rig. It loads to the console box, I get a black screen like its going to load the game, then I get dumped back to my desktop, no errors no nothing.

I've unzipped to different folders, different partitions, I just can't get it to work. Sigh.

Windows XP, Athlon 64 3200, 6600, 2 GB of DDR 3200. :(

I've tried it in Win 2000, Win 95 and Win 98/ME. The only difference is when it crashes to desktop I get an error now, a software exception error.

Are you using the latest nvidia drivers?

Title: Re: 0.7.0 released!
Post by: LOC on July 12, 2007, 06:07:47 PM
I've tried several drivers to see if any would get OA to run. I've used everything from the 94.76's to the newest beta 168's (I forget the exact version number)

None of them let me play the game. I will try booting in to Vista and see if the game launches there, but I'd rather play it on XP. Either way, 0.6.0 played fine so :(

OpenArena: openarena.exe - Application Error
The exception unknown software exception (0xc00000fd) occured in the application at location 0x7c8024e0.

Thank you, that is something to work with:  0xc00000fd is a memory access error, basically the game is trying to write to memory that is already in use and is exiting as gracefully as it can and Windows is doing what it does best, providing cryptic error messages to common problems.

You need to free up memory somehow, this can be done by removing the contents of your /temp/ directory (gives the page file more HD space to play with), stopping unnecessary processes, rebooting, etc.  If that doesn't fix the problem it is a good possibility that you have some bad RAM.

Problem is, the game runs perfectly fine in Vista. I was just playing it for an hour without any problems whatsoever. As soon as I boot back into XP, same crash. As for your sugestions, I run CCleaner 3 or 4 times a day, I don't use a page file, I already streamlined my processes list, and I've reboot more times than I'd like to remember lately :D

If OA works in Vista but not XP, I don't see how that could be a memory error really. Kinda sucks though, I rather enjoyed the time I spent with the new release on Vista, its very well put together. Just wish I could run it in XP.

Any plans on releasing an intermediary 0.7.1 to fix some of the bugs? (like the fan one and the ones mentioned in the bugs topic)

Maybe it could be a good plan to do so before distro's start updating their package list, so new people immediately get the latest version without real bugs.

Make sure you have libopenal0a installed from Synaptic or your preferred package manager.

If it still doesnt work go into the Terminal, Applications > accessories > Terminal.

And type: openarena

Please post what is printed in the terminal.
