Title: Import maps
Post by: sorcerer on July 09, 2007, 09:10:09 AM
I consider to use OpenArena for research. Since I don't have any experience with it, here just one question: does OpenArena allow the import of maps from professional design tools such das 3DSmax, Rhino or similar software?

We are currently in the process of decision making whar game engine to use and this is an important criterion for our research group.

Thx for your help,
Sim

As long as your chosen graphics package can export to the .map & .md3 formats then yes.

If your looking specifically for a game engine then look at ioquake3, which OA uses.

I would recommend the Irrlicht engine. Some research projects have already used it as well. It may not be so efficient as ioquake3, but it is easy to use and has a lot of active users in the forum.

Plus it directly supports a lot of formats. More at the webpage.
