Title: OA freeze Ubuntu
Post by: Niflheim on July 25, 2007, 10:11:13 AM
Hello. I`m trying to run OA under Ubuntu on a FujitsuSiemens  laptop(Amilo Pro V2055/ with Via vn 800 video-card). All the graphics seem very fine and smooth. The problem start when i e.g. pick up a weapon. The game will then immediately freeze and the computer will no longer accept any input at all.  The only thing to do is to push down the off-button and restart. Btw it also froze when I tried to change weapon with mouse-wheel.

1) Are there any keyboard-shortcuts to use so i can force-quit OA?

2) Where can i look for an error-log?

I`m a new to both Ubuntu and XP, so i must have a detailed step-by-step instruction on how to figure this. XP version of OA is downloading now. The version for ubuntu was downloaded via the built-in add/remove utility.

Keep up with the good work in the open-source community.

hey man i'm pretty new to ubuntu too so maybe i won't be of much help but i'll give it a try.

1) Force Quit from OA --> I don't know of a way to specifically quit just OA but  Ctrl-Alt-Backspace will pop you back to your log on screen and at least save you from rebooting (you did say you were brand new to Ubuntu so maybe that is of some use to you).

2)Error log-->  If you go to Applications-->Accessories-->Terminal and then type in "openarena" and hit "enter" it will show  you all the errors the system is having in that terminal screen but if your system freezes just after opening openarena and you can't quit OA too look at that screen then that wouldn't be useful.

Hopefully someone else can shed some more light on this.
