I just downloaded openarena and i really like it. However there are about 5 servers available (usually 3-4 empty). But on oa website they show tons of servers. Am I using an old client or something?

When I check the version `openarena --version` --> ioq3+oa 1.35 client (Sep 10 2008). But from what i can see the latest version is 0.8. I'm puzzled.

I'm running ubuntu 8.10 and I downloaded openarena through the repos.

Thanks in advance

Ubuntu 8.10 has version 0.7.7 (can be checked with "aptitude show openarena")

Newest is 0.8.1

You can find a the newest version as a deb-package here: http://www.getdeb.net/app.php?name=openarena

Or you can wait for Ubuntu 9.4 that has 0.8.1

Or you can download the game manually from "Files" on www.openarena.ws (just unpack and it will work, although shortcuts and version control will be missing)

Ok. So 0.77 can only play with other people using 0.77? Then I guess it's easier to maintain the package manually and delete it when it's available through the repos. Both games will still use the same config files, right?

Thanks a lot!

on the repos note,

does anyone updates the openarena *.rpm/*.deb packages online? who's generating them? it's sad if someone downloads older version and sees no players or servers and moves on Sad

easiest way? go to http://openarena.ws in files section download 300 Mb .zip. unzipped and click on onpenarena.i386 (for linux) and .exe for windows. Then press multiplayer or single player. If you want multiplayer, change LOCAL for INTERNET then leave unset in the filters show full and show empty, click on show only humans and the select one server with players. Then click on fight!
