Open Arena spanish site

I have the idea to create an OA spanish site where get more players to this great game and to advert it more in the internet.

The idea is to create the same website (Very relationed with this original site) but in spanish,and  with spanish forums.

I would do it without any problem for this week.

But first...

What are your opinion?

Openarena.es seems dissapeared. There are not activity in their site/forums since December 2006, and their Server is offline :S

any suggestions?

some suggestions:
- the best thing would be to make the official site multilanguage in the first place. The site is not too big and adding new forums here for other languages shouldn't be a problem (if necessarry. There could be also ONE international forum for non-english speaking folks). This would be the greatest benefit for the project.
- another option would be to use the wiki and create (some) pages in other languages. e.g. "es_aboutOpenArena"
- you could make a multilingual fansite dedicated to OA and fans could help to translate it in other languages.

It would be also great to get a translation team together that helps translating some of the more static texts (about, howtoinstall, readme, game manual etc.). Of course it wouldn't make much sense to translate things that are still heavily work in progress.

Anyway I could translate some text into my foreign language (german) if necessary (from english, my spanish is near zero )

Yeah, making forums for different languages would be the least you can do. If you need any language translation I'm fluent in Spanish and adequate at French.

personally I don't have a problem to translate OA news, as I'm very interested in the project. But it's always a bit of a problem to keep several translations up to date. Think of it this way: If you want to post a news and you will have to wait for everyone to translate it, it could take days (or even weeks) till you can finally publish it in all languages at once. A possible solution would be to make the news primarily english (so you post it first in english only) and then link to a translated version if available.

Well that's the least of things, the point is to have it translated and that's what will happen, we can't all wish for pink ponies and a castle. I say we put up a Translation forum where English things are translated. Then replies will be the translation in said Languages, like so:

1st Post: I am going to the market.

2nd Post: Spanish: blah blah blah

If someone messes up, someone could reply with the fix. Who ever's webmaster could then simply take the translation and put it wherever they like. In my opinion it's better to have a translation at some point than never.

Whatever the case, like I've said, putting up forums for different languages would be the least you can do. Don't go making one for every language under the sun either. Make some for a few languages first, Spanish, French, German, whatever. As demand comes you could create more. This is from personal experience because if you put up a lot and they don't get used it'll give the forum an ugly empty feeling.

About the translation method above, basically you'd post whatever it is you wanted to post (News, a wiki page, etc. etc.), you don't have to wait for translations. Then you make a thread in the Translation forum with a link to the text. Replies will then contain translations which, who ever be in charge, could post up as well. This way you somehow let us know that something needs translation. Probably then, depending on the most common translators, you could assemble a specifically committed translation team.

Just a thought, but hey it's just me talking here.

yes, I think that's a good idea. As there is already link to forums with the comment system it could make sense to let post translations in the comments threads. Anyway some basics translated to german:

To create forums in differents languages into the OA official website would be the best way for amplify the international OA community.

We could begin with that, and after, if it runs well, we could translate the website into spanish or other languages for example.

If you need any spanish translator, here I am (Because Im spanish ), and I could translate the website or tutorials without any problem if the community needs it.

I have some other friends who speaks english very well or better than me and they can support me if i have any problem, and they also plays OA normally.

I am very interested to create an OA spanish community, because is one of the few good games I have seen Open for Linux and I want to play it more with my people.

hi, im really disapointed, i was reviewing the spanish site and just a few people is visiting the site, and the worst is tht the people who visites the site just post stupid themes and xxx-link-sites.. i hope someone can do something about that..

i guess his name is Jorge Ortal Hernandez, he is the Administrator and he is from Valencia - Spain. i was reviewing the spanish site and his mail is  open@openarena.es, i already posted a serious comment but again, stupid publicity appears again.
