I spent this weekend porting my old Quake 2 mod, Rise of the Gods, over to the ioquake3 / OpenArena code base. I have another weekend or so before it'll be completed. It's open-source and GPL'd. It had limited success in Q2. Unfortunately I released it just a couple of months before Q3A came out. I stopped development and had planned to port, but haven't until just now. I intend to focus it towards OA.

Are you guys still planning on hosting mods on SVN and possibly distributing them in releases? If so, I'd like to apply RotG for that, if you'll have it.

Check out the mod description here:

If you make it a cvar (so it can be played across all gametypes not just ffa) we can include the gametype in the missionpack, which we intend to include more gametypes than vanilla TA.

Okay. I can do that. Right now the only thing that would be a problem is that I took +button5 and +button6 bindings away from TA. Maybe the OA missionpack project would consider adding a handful of unused, pre-coded client commands? So that msg.c wouldn't have to be ammended every time.

Right now everything is up for grabs WRT the missionpack.  The only things that are set in stone are the existing gametypes, physics, and gameplay.  We've already added vampire + instagib as cvars with a new team elimination mode and the framework for last man standing.

The code for the missionpack qvms is currently in the /source/mods/expanded/ folder in the svn.  Most of the current work was done by Sago007 (he's on vacation I believe) with half-assed ui changes done by myself.  I'm working on making the ui changes whole-assed, but that requires me not being lazy...

Feel free to add your changes Smiley

Cool, Clown. I'll take a look.

Anyone who wants to try the mod out in its very early stage can connect to kylratix.ath.cx. It should also be listed under "Rise of the Gods" in the server list within OA right now. I'm not sure if the auto downloading is working, so if it isn't, make sure to tell me and I'll play with the settings. If you connect then get disconnected with an Unknown Event ID error, auto-dl is turned off on your client or the server isn't uploading properly.

For manual downloading, the latest pak will be available at:
http://www.binarycult.com/misc/pak9.pk3
Put this in your openarena/rotg folder.

A few notes for console config:
/set cg_lagometer 0
/bind mouse3 +button5

Right now, no god classes. Just the basic power system, divine intervention, and prayer (+button5).

[ed. That's right. I got pak9. Wink ]
[ed. Also, I'm looking for closed beta testers to work with every other night to try to find bugs and balancing issues. They'll go in the credits, of course. Anyone interested, let me know. ]

Yeah, the last Fedora update screwed my Nvidia drivers up and I haven't really sat down and tried to tinker with it. Lots of freelance projects bouncing around this week, but I should have the server back up with a few new updates to the code by the end of this coming weekend.

Not a big fan of autodownloads being enabled by default. I'd rather there just be a "Do you want to download from this server?" dialog box. The debate and discussion on this is worn out, though.
