Hi, guys.

It is great to be back. Thanks to the devs for all of their hard work.

I have a quick question.
I used to run an OA dedicated server on my Intel Mac Mini with Ubuntu.
Since the .80 issue, I have started using the OS X side of this box a LOT more, as this machine is also my media PC and is hooked to my TV (beta testing Netflix streaming for OS X).
My players are after me to get .81 up and running ASAP, but I want to keep using OS X on this machine (at least until Netflix releases a Mono solution for streaming with Linux).

My question(s):
Are the instructions found here
(DO NOT LINK) h t t p s : / / openarena . wikia . com/wiki/Servers#Example_Mac
really that easy?
Can I use the Linux server.cfg file to control the server? There are a couple of maps from the 100-map pack that we have become fond of.

Thanks, and again, it is awesome to be back!

It should be that easy -- I believe any client binaries should be able to run as dedicated with +set dedicated "2".

The configs should also be the same as with your Ubuntu server.

Hmmm. I must be over-thinking this...problem with being raised on DOS/Windows and then learning Linux...and then trying to use OS X. ;-)
Wrong Think is a real killer.

Here's what I have done.
I moved oa081.zip over to the Mini and unzipped it to my desktop.
I then moved OpenArena.app into the Applications folder.
cding into /Applications/OpenArena.app/Contents/MacOS shows me these files:

drwxr-xr-x   2 hannamj  admin       68 Oct 22 05:44 baseoa
-rwxrwx---   1 hannamj  admin  4474044 Oct 20 18:51 libSDL-1.2.0.dylib
-rwxrwx---   1 hannamj  admin    93676 Oct 20 19:21 libogg.0.5.3.dylib
-rwxrwx---   1 hannamj  admin   968904 Oct 20 19:22 libvorbis.0.3.1.dylib
-rwxrwx---   1 hannamj  admin   205196 Oct 20 19:23 libvorbisfile.3.1.1.dylib
drwxr-xr-x   2 hannamj  admin       68 Oct 22 05:44 missionpack
-rwxrwx---   1 hannamj  admin  1524688 Oct 20 18:51 oa_ded.ub
-rwxrwx---   1 hannamj  admin  3172120 Oct 20 19:16 openarena.ub

ioquake3.ub and ioq3ded.ub (found in the wiki) are not listed.

OSX-Mini:/Applications/OpenArena.app/Contents/MacOS hannamj$ ./oa_ded.ub +set dedicated 2 +exec server.cfg +map aggressor
ioq3+oa 1.35 macosx-i386 Oct 20 2008
----- FS_Startup -----
Current search path:
/Users/hannamj/Library/Application Support/OpenArena/baseoa
./baseoa

----------------------
0 files in pk3 files
Couldn't load default.cfg

Now, the unzipped oa081 folder is sitting out on my desktop, like I said.
Drilling into /Users/hannamj/Library/Application Support/OpenArena/baseoa shows me only
crashlog.txt
q3config.cfg

So, I am scratching my head.
Are there any kind-hearted Mac users here that can help me out?
The wiki is definitely in need of an update.

OpenArena.app might belong in the openarena-0.8.1 folder.

Huzzah to the shoppekeep!
OS X, man. It is so simple that it is difficult!

I am now trying to start it from the Terminal with +set dedicated 2

I see:
execing default.cfg
execing q3c onfig_server.cfg
couldn't exec autoexec.cfg

It then seems to hang with the last message being:
Opening IP socket: 0.0.0.0:27960

When I fire up my client, it does not see any local games on the LAN.

The server is not hanging -- you need to be running a map for the server to actually start (or any config you may have).

Opening IP socket: 0.0.0.0:27960

]map dm6ish
------ Server Initialization ------
Server: dm6ish
Hunk_Clear: reset the hunk ok
----- FS_Startup -----
Current search path:

Thanks for that.

I am going to cobble together a server.cfg file tomorrow.

I was messing about with the new Mission Pack.
It seems that it just keeps recycling the same map.
Is there anyway to get it to load the next map at the end of the previous session?
And, yes, I did see the copious amount of "This is a work in progress" notices.

I believe you need to manually set nextmap (just like in a server config), since it doesn't yet do that automatically.

Thanks for sticking with me through all of this.
I've not had a chance to play around with a servert.cfg file yet tonight.
Just wondering...are you one of the devs?
