my appologies if this is a dead thread or my comment is in the wrong thread, I did a search and there were so many i just picked one.

I have a question really,

The original q3a texture package used in q3a, are the textures used in oa reproductions of the original textures or are some of them copywritten and some not?  The reason I ask is if you try to use a custom map built for q3a in oa there are missing textures, mostly common base textures used in the original game.

So is the texture package/model package used in the original game still under copy right?  or are they allowed for use with the GPL?

If they are allowed is there a pak patch or addition with the missing textures or would you guys be enterested in one if I were to build just such a thing saying that it doesnt already exist?

asking when OA3 will be done won't get OA3 done.
Progress of OA3 currently occurs behind closed doors alone

I do not provide technical support either.

would it be feasible then to recreate similar textures with the same file names so that older maps work?

Check this thread. I'm assuming the textures are GPL equivalents. I don't have OA 0.8.0 yet (Mac), but I also assumed these were the textures that were going into 0.8.0. Apparently this is incorrect?

Right, what i was talking about is if i create a completely new set of textures/models/sprites for OA that uses the same dir structure and filenames as q3a then anything OA or q3a will work, and it will also be GPL/OS because I'd give the rights to the OA project.  Now whether or not you guys choose to use the package is up to you.  I'm currently working on that package, and if It wont be covered under the agreement you guys have with Id and with the GPL, then I'm not going to waste my time.  My understanding of a copy write is you can copy write a image, or some type of literature, or document, but not a name.  I'm not an expert on this, which is why i came here in the first place to get the scoop from the crew running this project.

Originally I was going to ask if you guys had a spot for a dev/artwork, but I also know from my own experience that isn't really the way to go about it.  So, instead if I do my homework and produce some of my own sparked dev/artwork, then if you guys want me to join the team you'll ask me to do so.

@onykage,
Some guy I know is also working on a package to replace Q3A textures.

From my point of view, you're allright to make your textures from scratch.
Legally, I think it's all okay.
That would be nice if you and him get connected to avoid having 2 texture packs.

It will be up to him, but the texture pack he's working on could be released on a BSD type licence (allowing OA team to GPL-it).

I'll ask him to contact you Wink
