From id Software's home page.

Quote
June 24, 2009 (Rockville, MD) – ZeniMax Media Inc., parent company of noted game publisher Bethesda Softworks, today announced it has completed the acquisition of legendary game studio, id Software, creators of world-renowned games such as DOOM, QUAKE, Wolfenstein, and its upcoming title, RAGE. The acquisition by ZeniMax Media joins together two of the finest, most respected videogame developers in the world, combining the first person shooter (FPS) expertise of id Software with acclaimed role playing game (RPG) developer Bethesda Game Studios – creators of the 2008 Game of the Year, Fallout 3, and the 2006 Game of the Year, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Bethesda Softworks will publish the titles of id Software other than upcoming releases previously committed to other publishers.

It seems like an end of an era. The last great indie has fallen.

I hope it goes well for them. I remember what happened to Origin after EA aquired them. That was heart breaking. Cry

Thanks to id software and friends for almost 2 decades of kick ass fps!

You may be right. If they follow EA's path, id's dead.

Oh, and this is why I'm against EA, although I miss Westwood, not Origin.

I sure hope not. I hope it doesn't

- Elder Scrolls: Battlespire 2 by Id Software
- Terminator: Absolute SkyNET Overkill by id software
- Call of Cthulhu 2 finding his pants by id software
- Fallout The Shooter by id software
- Doom5 using Gamebryo
- DRM all over id games and no linux version in sight
- Close down of all developer wikis and resources to the public
- Crap effort at advertising
- id completely laid off or sold or renamed to "Bethesda Texas" (which would make no sense as there is no city named Bethesda in Texas.)
- no more quakecon keynotes

asking when OA3 will be done won't get OA3 done.
Progress of OA3 currently occurs behind closed doors alone

I do not provide technical support either.

Unless you live in Maryland. Wink

fromhell's decision to demphasize q3a homage content now seems prescient. id seemed to turn a blind eye, but who knows about ZeniMax.
