Hahaha, so I just connect to your local IP and play instagib *lol* But bad luck, there's no such server in my internal network ;-))

It is not a local IP, local IPs is in the ranges 196.168/16, 10/8 and 172.16/12 Edit: The definition: http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc1918

All with the exception of 192 and 172. Freaking crap. Anyway, don't have Quake4 and don't intend to ever download it as long as it isn't FOSS.

Wrong: 192.*.*.*.* 127.X.X.X 10.*.*.*.*
are all local IP's
# ifconfig eth0_rename Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:14:5e:ca:42:37 inet addr:192.168.1.32 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 inet6 addr: fd70::256:6efe:aefd:5483/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
Probably sago makes a typo mistake : he meant 192 not 196 ... anyway you should read the linked rfc and if u are still not convinced , you could try to make a whois : :~$ whois 192.246.40.28 PSINet, Inc. NETBLK-PSINET-C2 (NET-192-246-0-0-1) 192.246.0.0 - 192.246.255.255 ID Software PSINET40-C2 (NET-192-246-40-0-1) 192.246.40.0 - 192.246.40.255
# ARIN WHOIS database, last updated 2009-08-21 20:00 # Enter ? for additional hints on searching ARIN's WHOIS database.
( LOL ... ID software ? ) EDIT : anyway YOU are actually wrong . the 127.x.x.x range is reserved for referring LOCAL interface addresses not for Local/internal regular addresses. EDIT2 : look quote : http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc1918... 3. Private Address Space
The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) has reserved the following three blocks of the IP address space for private internets:
10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255 (10/8 prefix) 172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255 (172.16/12 prefix) 192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255 (192.168/16 prefix) ...

Supposed so, too. You're correct in principle on 127.X., but it can be abused for local networking ;-)))
