openarena.exe doesn't work in vista x64 either, a bunch of keys don't work or are mapped incorrectly, so you have to use the deprecated client (which works fine). I'm going to guess ioquake3 people removed stuff they thought was useless, then didn't test on all os's. Hopefuly this gets fixed in next release (or atleast support for the deprecated client continues).

I'm having a similar problem on W7 RC. The game runs fine but in some maps the FPS goes critically down when some light or particular animation on the map occurs. It's a tedious problem and I need to fix it. I tryed with ALL details set to minimum (what a BLOB graphic LOL) and it still LAG !! So it's a driver problem ... someone got clues or ideas to test or fix it ? THANKS in advance.

Windows 7 isn't even officially released. Using Beta software is never advised for day to day use.

same goes for software that hasn't reached 1.0 development status [sarcasm] There's a BIG BIG difference between opensource software version numbering and that of for-profit companies here's a summary, you can read more here: http://www.faqs.org/docs/artu/ch16s04.htmlA major consequent difference between open-source practice and elsewhere is that a release level of 1.0 actually means the software is ready to use. In fact, a version number of 0.90 or above is a fairly reliable signal that the code is production-ready, but the developers are not quite ready to bet their reputations on it. So, I guess next Openarena release could mean it's very close to something fromhell could bet his/her life on!

Very nice post with a ton of informative information. I really appreciate the fact that you approach these topics from a stand point of knowledge and information instead of the typical “I think” mentality that you see so much on the internet these days.

Maybe OT but I am not sure to have understood ( sarcasm ) why the commercial name is "Windows 7" but the OS string is "Windows 6.1" ( Windows Vista is Windows 6.0 *cough* *cough* ) EDIT : ( as I remember OS string of Windows 2000 is Windows 5.0 while Windows XP is Windows 5.1 )
