Server in Linux Ubuntu

Anyone can tell me how to create a server ? I have openarena-server, but i dont know how to use it. If someone tells me an easy way, no lots of configuration that i didnt understand in another sites or really unneeded. Just to make that works. I opened my port in my firewall and if i do a netstat I see when i put openarena-server in the console it begins listening the port 27960, and i see that it connects to localhost. I want to know how to create a server just for me and my friends, and the other to be public. If you know a step by step guide or tutorial, just let me know. Thank you.
