you might be better of asking on this forum. there's a lot of interesting stuff going on there and a lot of people to ask for advice.

also you can make maps with blender. normally people make maps for openarena with gtkradiant's brushes, but you can make and uvmap meshes in blender, export them to ase files, load them into gtkradiant and build them into maps.
