this sucks for windows users because if it can't run they won't have a clue on what happened. Bugging Timbo to undo it has been unsuccessful since he thinks he's god and believes it's "not portable" for it being removed. BIG STEP BACK IMO.

I can't have this gone in OA. Ever.

asking when OA3 will be done won't get OA3 done.
Progress of OA3 currently occurs behind closed doors alone

I do not provide technical support either.

burn timbo or wait him to be burnt in sw hell

removing existing functionality for the sake of portability is not a good programming experience in my  humble opinion
also SDL totally changes the input behavior on windows. This may not look like problem at first but it will definitely make former players sad ... really sad

I wonder why ioquake3 project derailed. As far as I can tell they are doing more than maintaining the engine

this sucks for windows users because if it can't run they won't have a clue on what happened.

That's what error log files are for, stderr.txt should be created across all systems when the game can't run which is better than a console window that may only be readable for a split second on certain machines.

In short you don't need the console window for error reporting, especially when it is unreliable.
