Yes. I've been tinkering with the idea of "porting" (notice the quotes) Thunderwalker. Nothing serious though.

So far I only have an airfist, vaguely similar decals, and a few textures. My biggest problems is why make a mod no one (read 2 of whom would probably be original TW players) will play?

what do you mean make a mod no one will play?

i meant creating symbols for the teams and then they could be used in all ctf maps for open arena if the mappers want to include them in the map.

bumping up an old topic...

do we have any creative artists that can come up with symbols for the teams?

i tried to find good images of the threewave mod and their symbols but this was the best i could find:
the hammer and the lightning are clear symbols that are simple and look good. i think it would be great if we could come up with two symbols that are clear as images and by popular culture are antagonists. like cat vs dog, pirate vs ninja Wink

any ideas - or is it a bad idea?

I can do these on inkscape. Texture artists might make CTF specific textures with the new symbols when we've decided the par.
UT2004 also has a lot of team symbols, it will be very difficult to choose two which aren't seen on other games.

EDIT: What about 6 and 9? Ying-yang like, but separated, being Ying the red symbol and yang the blue symbol.

Bump. Any ideas for team symbols? I'd like to implement those in my CTF maps.

How about some simple geometric symbols, like one is a circle the other is a rectangle. Maybe that's too basic, but one can be curved and the other linear. Are we thinking about just 2 different CTF symbols now, or we need more for the TA teams?

2 symbols for the CTF teams. Mainly in order to create dedicated CTF textures for each team, such as those the Threewave CTF maps have.
That's a start, but what about something a bit more complex? A grenade, boxing gloves, a landmine, a ghost, a zombie... I don't know.

I haven't heard of these before, but they sound ok. I assume at the least, they would be like silhouettes or basic images. Is that right?
Would it be possible to change/select them each time you play the map, or do they always stay the same?

A couple of quick ideas (which may or may not have been used in countless other games):
Something to represent each character in the game.
A penguin for Penguin. A ball of string for Neko. A trident for Merman. A spider or a web for Arachna. A witch hat for Sorceress. A gear for Skelebot. Perhaps the grenade for Beret. A guillotine or a skull or a sharp and sinister looking weapon for Assassin. etc...
 Powerful or predatory animals.
Tiger, eagle/hawk, shark, praying mantis, wolf, bear, octopus, snake, scorpion, etc.

a landmine, a ghost, a zombie

.......MHMMMMMMMM.

If OA's going to do this, it should be done efficiently like one grayscale PCX image per logo, which is additively blended with a rgbGen const for the appropriate color

Don't forget Q3TA introduced shader remapping for this very purpose.

Some examples found in the Threewave maps, as examples of what Pulchr wanted to say in the first post:

I've found this for one of the symbols. Still, we should think on another:

non-symbolic experiments attached. don't take too jocularly.

Rorschach you mean ? Cheesy ehe, yes it's kinda abstract.
I got no good idea for symbols, it's hard to find when there is no universe defined.
Cats vs Dogs idea isn't bad, they could be fancy to draw, and they have IMO more charm than let's say a weapon drawing or a symbol. Maybe there is a contrast with some characters being more eastern than western, but there should be something more subtle to emphasize it.
